With the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 firmly established, Warhammer fans from around the community have been painting Combat Patrols to play small games. We’ve rounded up a couple more, from our very own hobby guru Peachy, and renowned fan of big guns, Vincent Knotley – who shockingly doesn’t have so much as a single Deathstrike in his Combat Patrol! Let’s see what they’ve been up to.
Peachy the Preacher
Over the last few months, I’ve been building up my Adepta Sororitas collection, painting them as the Order of the Argent Shroud. I’ve always loved the look of the Sisters of Battle, but even more so in gleaming silver armour.
My Combat Patrol’s leader is Palatine Gabriella the Tall. Though in the rules she’s represented by the Canoness datasheet, it felt fitting to have a lower ranked commander lead this Mission. I’ve used parts from a Sequitor model to represent her, with elements from the Retributor kit and Battle Sisters Squad box to bring her in line with the Adepta Sororitas aesthetic. I also have a Canoness ready to take command for larger games.
Safeguarding both their Palatine and the younger members of the Mission is a squad of Celestians.
My Dominions are all armed with flamers, mostly because they look cool, but also to flush out heretics that skulk within any fortifications, bringing conflagration to those hiding in the shadows.
To deal with the bigger threats I’m likely to encounter, I’ve added in a squad of Retributors, with a mix of heavy flamers and multi-meltas.
Finally, I have a squad of 10 Battle Sisters, not only for the versatility that the unit can bring to any fight, but also because they're just so symbolic of the Adepta Sororitas.
The armour was painted with a basecoat of Leadbelcher. I applied Gryph-Charger Grey all over, ensuring it settled more into the recesses, then highlighted it with Stormhost Silver. For the robes, I used Barak-Nar Burgundy, shaded with Basilicanum Grey, then layered the raised details with more Barak-Nar Burgundy before highlighting with Pink Horror.

Somewhere to the galactic south of Cretacia, the dark side of a dead, grey world awakens to flashes of colour not seen since before there were human eyes to see. The Qahepekh Dynasty were long viewed by their peers as little above beasts to be unleashed, let alone allies. They scoured their own worlds before their long slumber.
Risen now by the Silent King’s decree, the lords of this destructive empire find a galaxy replete with foul construction. Nothing drives them beyond flattening worlds to protect Overlord Sekh’Ren’s blind child, for no obstacle can be allowed to stand lest she stumble and bring Qahepekh back to its ruined, ashen past.
As far as painting goes, the new Necron sculpts drink up Contrast paints like a Flash Git drinks bullets. Starting from a Grey Seer basecoat, I used two coats of Skeleton Horde thinned with Contrast Medium to achieve the armour colour. One drybrush, then a highlight, of Pallid Wych Flesh finished the armour.
Militarum Green, highlighted with Ogryn Camo and Krieg Khaki, sorted out the carapace. The orange was made up from glazes of Gryph-Hound Orange over Grey Seer. Simple and very, very effective. Top tip: pre-highlighting the blades with Corax White and White Scar elevates the results immensely.
Looking forward, I’d like to add as many Lokhust Heavy Destroyers (big guns) and Doomstalkers (even bigger guns) as conceivably possible. At least another 20, possibly even 40, Necron Warriors simply have to join the party too, if only because of how much fun they were to paint. I have to say too, I’d love to find space to add some more Skorpekh Destroyers. I’m not usually a melee kinda guy but painting them was such a joy I’d be remiss not to double dip.
