Know Your Aelves!

The Mortal Realms are home to aelves of all shapes and sizes. Today, we’re looking at the varieties we know about (so far!) ahead of the latest aelves to hit the Mortal Realms, the Lumineth Realm-lords, whose first releases are about to go on pre-order this weekend...

City Aelves

Many aelves live in the myriad Cities of Sigmar. From the rangers of the Wanderers to the mysterious servants of the Darkling Covens, these aelves are haughty, elegant creatures who fight as hard as any human or duardin to protect their cities. In Phoenicium, the aelves of the Phoenix Temple are silent, grim guardians who have passed through death with the aid of the magical Flamespyre and Frostheart Phoenixes. The aelves of the Scourge Privateers have made a particular impact in Anvilgard, where they use their natural skills to hunt monsters – and those that would tear down their hard-won bastion of Order.

Daughters of Khaine

Formed from twisted, vengeful souls siphoned from Slaanesh by Morathi, the Shadow Queen, the aelves of the Daughters of Khaine combine the agility and skill of their kin with an unmistakably bloodthirsty streak.

The tortured souls of these aelves manifest not only in their bloodlust but also in sinister mutations including serpentine bodies and bat-like wings. Their murderous impulses are channelled by Morathi herself who is ostensibly the High Oracle of the old aelven god of war, Khaine – though her power is such that it rivals the abilities of a god.

Some of Morathi’s followers can even channel the power of shadow and use it to slip unseen, ready to plunge a dagger into their foes’ backs…

Idoneth Deepkin

Created by Teclis in an attempt to recapture the glories of lost Ulthuan, the Idoneth Deepkin were formed from souls deeply traumatised by their time within Slaanesh. As such, most are born with a weakness of the soul which they must supplement with souls stolen from other beings of the Mortal Realms. Even those lucky enough to be born with full souls are withdrawn or even cruel. That said, the state of the Idoneth Deepkin’s souls has not dimmed their prowess one iota – even the blind Namarti are terrifyingly proficient warriors.

Lumineth Realm-lords

The Lumineth Realm-lords are aelves of vast mental acuity who live in Hysh. After learning from his failed attempts to rescue the aelven souls siphoned from Slaanesh, Archmage Teclis created the Lumineth Realm-lords, and they are the pinnacle of aelven design, with their mastery of magic being second to none in the Mortal Realms. Despite being perfect in almost every way, in the past, these luminous beings have fallen victim to their own arrogance, so now they lead lives of careful balance, harmony, and respect for the spirits of the realm of Hysh itself.

And More!

There are many other factions of aelves out there in the Mortal Realms. In Ghur, the fierce Kurnothi hunt great beasts and unwary travellers. The Sylvaneth haunt forests across the realms. While no longer true aelves, they are the inheritors of the lost glories of the ancient woodland realm. Some claim to have glimpsed Mistweavers, conjurors of illusion with masks of mirrored silver. There are even rumours of aelves in the thrall of Chaos, who heed the Everchosen’s call.

That’s just the pointy tip of the aelven race. Who knows what other dark and mysterious cultures await discovery in the wild places of the Mortal Realms? Only time will tell!
