Battlezones are a new concept in Warhammer 40,000, designed to help you to quickly and easily create thematic battlefields for your games. Each Battlezone is a collection of terrain, with evocative background and comprehensive rules support, and the first one is coming your way this weekend.
Battlezone: Manufactorum is a game-changer for your Warhammer 40,000 experience. With it, your games will be more tactically rewarding and look better than ever before – allow us to explain how.
In a nutshell, Battlezone: Manufactorum is a Warhammer 40,000 expansion from the minds behind the new edition, designed to bring even more tactical depth to your battles. Alongside the terrain pieces (more on those later), the Warhammer studio team have made a pack of cards loaded with detailed rules to breathe incredible life into your Battlezone. They’ve been created to work with the new Chapter Approved: Tactical Deployment Mission Pack and the Tactical Deployment games that this book opens up.
Tactical Deployment
In a Tactical Deployment game, each player brings an agreed amount of terrain to the battle – this can give them a strategic advantage or just make your battlefield look great.* The Battlezone: Manufactorum – Terrain Datasheet Cards plug right into this new way of playing. Inside the pack, you’ll find oodles of ways to give your army distinct bonuses. Time for one of those examples we were referring to…
Consider the humble Engine Shed
One Tactical Terrain Datasheet included in the set is the Engine Shed. For 60 Terrain Points, you get a defensible terrain piece that offers you Light Cover and, best of all, gives any infantry inside the chance to repair damaged vehicles. Stick a Triarch Stalker, Dreadnought, or Firestrike Servo-turret in there and it’s going to be very hard to finish off.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Battlezone: Manufactorum – Terrain Datasheet Cards is loaded with goodies, designed to give you a tactical edge in battle and make your games even more exciting. But where does this fit in the lore?
Welcome to War Zone: Pariah
The unfolding narrative of Warhammer 40,000 sees the forces of the Indomitus Crusade fall upon Vertigus II to thwart the monstrous plans of the awakening Necrons and uncover the mysteries of the Pariah Nexus. This setting has all the hallmarks of a horror story – Imperial citizenry, docile as cattle and ready to be harvested by an ancient evil? Check. The scions of the Silent King awakening from their tombs, ready to reclaim the galaxy? Check. It’s epic stuff indeed. You can read more about it here! It’s a compelling tale and a ripe location for your narrative (especially Crusade) games. What you’ll need is a suitable stage for such dramatics!
Enter Battlezone: Manufactorum – Vertigus
This fantastic box is absolutely packed with two gorgeous double-sided card gaming boards (much like the ones in Command Edition Expansion Battlefield set) and no less than 24 separate pieces of terrain. It’s a battlefield in a box! It contains all the terrain you need for a Combat Patrol- or Incursion-sized game, right off the bat.
Of course, how good it looks is part of the battle. It’s also the perfect setup for recreating the epic encounters of Imperial crusade elements, Necrontyr ‘defenders’, xenos interlopers, and throne only knows who else. Between the Engine Shed (see above), Sub-cloister, Auto-choral Transmitter, Thermo-Exchanger Shrine, and a huge stack of Thermo Pipes, you’ve got a cracking battlefield to wage war on. With the full-colour game board and sweet plastic terrain, it looks great enough to play your first games on before you’ve painted it. But, when the time comes, we’ve got you covered!
Whether you’re planning to fill your boots in epic battles within the Pariah Nexus, stockpile a game-winning array of terrain for Tactical Terrain Games, or just want to bolster your Warhammer 40,000 or Kill Team setup, the Battlezone: Manufactorum – Vertigus is ideal. If you’re looking for a good starting point for an Armies of Parade display, you couldn’t do much better than this! Even better, it’s right around the corner – it’s available to pre-order on Saturday the 26th of September, along with the Battlezone: Manufactorum – Terrain Datasheet Cards and four other boxes loaded with terrain.
While you’re waiting for the kits to drop, get onto the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page, or join us on Twitter and let us know what you’re most excited about. What Battlezone would you like to see next?
* We’ll be taking a closer look at Tactical Deployment later in the week, so keep your eyes peeled!
