Indomitus Space Marines and Necrons clash with new rules in Kill Team

Something new is coming to Kill Team. While we haven't said much so far about the game's next expansion, we can now reveal that many of the best-loved and best-equipped Warhammer 40,000 units released in 2020 will soon be coming to a skirmish-sized tabletop near you.

With that in mind, Mission Report is back to shine a light on two of the most important units of the Indomitus Crusade, the Assault Intercessors and Necron Warriors. They may be the rank-and-file but their impact on the field of Kill Team is anything but ordinary.

Assault Intercessors

As the Indomitus Crusade shifted the Space Marines from defending Mankind’s worlds to assaulting its enemies, many Primaris Intercessors took to the field with heavy bolt pistols and mighty Astartes chainswords in hand. The close confines of Kill Team’s compact arenas are perfect for such a melee-focused fighter, who’s sure to find ample prey within a few short strides.

The extra Armour Penetration from their chainsword will come in handy against thicker armour, and the Sergeant can even leave theirs at home in favour of a power fist or thunder hammer. Best of all, you can take them alongside a regular Intercessor Sergeant for double the punching power.

Assault Intercessors also provide access to the valuable Zealot specialism usually found only among the Chapter’s elite, gaining powerful close combat bonuses as they charge around the board shouting, chopping, and altogether putting the fear of the God-Emperor into xenos and heretic alike.

Necron Warriors

From one fearless warrior to another, the timeworn legions of the Necron dynasties return to Kill Team with more than just a fresh coat of paint. Who says you can’t teach an old robo-dog new tricks?

The shining star of the revitalised Necron Warrior is their option to take a gauss reaper into combat in place of their classic gauss flayer. These close-ranged weapons deliver even greater killing power to the soft, fleshy bodies of the organic races.* While their range is significantly shorter, the furious face-to-face fighting of Kill Team is sure to provide plenty of opportunities to catch your opponents unawares.

It’s hardly time to consign the gauss flayers to hanging above the mantelpiece, though. Not ones to be outdone by their newer, spicier brothers, the mainstay of the Necron legions has a brand new Tactic to even the odds, letting their owner lay down a furious fusillade of fire for a single Command Point.

* They work just as well on other Necrons too, but surely they would never have such petty squabbles…
