Yesterday, we brought you a massive announcement about Warhammer animations – if you missed it, go and give it a read. It’s okay, we’ll wait for you.
Done? Cool. Alongside the reveal of four incredible animated projects, we promised you a closer look at one of them today. So without further ado, let’s dive into The Exodite. We don’t know about you, but we definitely want to watch the trailer again.
We’ll be honest, we want to bin off work for the day, grab some popcorn, and just watch it again and again. However, duty calls, and we shall attend to the Greater Good of you, our dear reader.
The Exodite follows an expeditionary force from the T’au Empire as they push their borders and try to bring the Greater Good to a new world. Of course, in the grim darkness of the far future, nothing ever goes smoothly, and conflict awaits, both with the Imperium and other xenos forces…
There’s a lot to get excited about in the trailer, not least the first close-up look at T’au technology in motion since the 2003 video game Fire Warrior. Here are some of our favourite shots from the trailer and why we love them.
There’s no shortage of awesome artwork depicting the blue-skinned aliens in Codex: T’au Empire and other publications (not to mention all the models!), but we rarely get to see a servant of the Greater Good up close and personal. This image of La’koma, the recently promoted shas’vre of a Stealth Team and The Exodite’s main character, really highlights just how different from humans the T’au are, and it somehow makes them feel more alien than they ever have before. And check out the others behind – they look ready for whatever’s coming their way.
The details on La’koma’s flight suit are fascinating, such as the headpiece that we guess will interface with systems on the Stealth suit we glimpse later in the trailer. Are we going to see this hero of the Tash’var Sept (check out the insignia reflected in the glass…) kick some face? That’s a definite yes, to be fair, and WE CAN’T WAIT.
Kroot Warspheres have appeared in codexes, in a recent Black Library short story, and even as a model for Battlefleet Gothic – but we’ve never seen one in this much detail. The sheer scale of it next to these T’au ships is staggering and promises that we’re going to see the technological marvels of the T’au Empire as never before. It’s hard to tell from this distance, but it looks like the Warsphere has taken some damage and is undergoing repairs – clearly this isn't the beginning of hostilities.
Speaking of those T’au vessels, here they head towards a planet ablaze with the fires of war. They’re ready to spread the philosophy of the Greater Good – through the barrels of pulse rifles, ion cannons, and other high-tech weapons, most likely. Epic action awaits.
But we couldn't wrap things up without a reference to that title. The project is called The Exodite, after all, so what about the titular Aeldari? For now, you'll just have to wait and see, but suffice to say that The Exodite will offer your most vivid look yet at an especially enigmatic branch of the Aeldari family tree.
