New weapons are coming for your Adeptus Titanicus god-machines, in the form of devastating Martian heat rays. Prepare to add volkite weapons to your Titanic arsenal.
What Are Volkite Weapons?
The Great Crusade was a time of technological innovation. The Tech-Priests of Mars crafted all manner of mechanical marvels for the Imperium’s expeditionary fleets as they set out to unite the galaxy.
Of course, the forces of the Great Crusade were first and foremost conquering armies, and so the greatest effort was put into weapons of war. Volkite weapons were perhaps the most devastating of these.
In simple terms, volkite weapons are heat rays. They fire beams of energy that set unprotected targets – like squishy humans – on fire. When scaled up to Titan size, they are terrifyingly effective at taking down void shields, as they superheat the protective energy barriers and pop them out of existence.
Which Titans Can Use Them?
Volkite weapons are on the way for Warhound, Reaver, and Warlord Titans. They come in two types – volkite eradicators for Warhounds and Reavers and mighty volkite destructors for Warlords.
What Do They Do?
Basically, volkite weapons destroy void shields at close ranges. Both the eradicator and the destructor use three dice per attack, with a range of 20” for the former and 24” for the latter. They have the Voidbreaker (2) trait, meaning that if at least 1 hit is scored, the target has to roll an additional 2 shield saves. Even a formidably shielded Warmaster Heavy Battle Titan could potentially be stripped of all its protection by a single volley.
Of course, volkite weapons also have their uses against the cold metal skins of Titans and Knights. At Strength 5 for the eradicator and 6 for the destructor, they’re not going to be making the Princeps of a Warlord sweat, but concentrated fire can easily threaten a damaged location on a Titan or finish off a depleted Knight Banner.
The Warlord’s volkite destructor can also be fired as a Beam (1) weapon, at the cost of Draining the Titan’s reactor. This makes it the perfect weapon for delivering the killing blow – the Beam trait makes it possible to deal automatic hits even during targeted attacks, allowing you to tear apart a Titan's most damaged location and score another Engine Kill.
Volkite eradicators and destructors are a useful new tool in any Princeps’ arsenal. Sign up for the Forge World newsletter to find out when they’re available to pre-order. In the meantime, pick up a Warlord, a Reaver, or some Warhounds, and get them ready for their new guns – and let us know on the Horus Heresy Facebook page how you intend to use your Martian death rays.
