You’ve discovered the tragic history of Ulfenkarn and seen the glorious board pieces that make up the environment of the Cursed City. Now, with the co-operative game going up for pre-order in a matter of days, it’s time to check out the character and hostile reference cards for Warhammer Quest: Cursed City.
The Good Guys
We’ve already met notorious vampire hunter Jelsen Darrock who, along with other heroes such as Octren Glimscry, Qulathis the Exile, and Brutogg Corpse-Eater, is seeking to save Ulfenkarn. Each of these brave warriors has their own card which tells you their key stats such as movement, defence, the attack values of their various weapons, and any special skills that they possess. Here is Jelsen’s card.
The weapon action line for Jelsen’s huge gun, known as Judgement, shows us that when he attacks with it, you get to roll two D8s – a success will cause an impressive 2 Damage but a critical success will cause a whopping 4 Damage!
Those four boxes at the top of the card are for Jensen's activation dice. You roll these at the start of your turn, then spend them to move Jelsen around the streets of Ulfenkarn and kill the undead villains he comes across. At the bottom of the card are sections for armour and weapons, which can be empowered as your quest continues. Great news for you, bad news for Radukar the Wolf and his minions.
The Bad Guys
Of course, the malevolent undead of the Cursed City have their own cards too. However, the hostiles aren’t controlled by a specific player – instead, they have a behaviour table for you to roll on, very similar to how hostiles work in Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress. Once you’ve rolled, the entire hostile group obeys the result. Here’s the Ulfenwatch’s card.*
As you can see, none of the results are good for your heroic adventurers, but it’s definitely better to roll low. Actually, our advice is to neutralise the entire hostile group before they activate, but that’s easier said than done. Fortunately, we’ve seen that Jelsen can take out one of these undead villains with each shot from his destructive cannon – we just hope it will be enough.
Warhammer Quest: Cursed City is available to pre-order from Saturday. Get ready for its release and learn more about how the hero and hostile cards work by checking out the Learn to Play video on the Cursed City website.
