Warhammer animations news has been coming your way at a rapid pace recently – from Hammer and Bolter to The Exodite, and from Angels of Death to Altar of Wrath. You’ll be happy to hear that these are just the tip of the animated spear, and this week we’re bringing you a look at key characters from another animated dive into the grim darkness of the far future.
Iron Within focuses on an embattled pair of Astra Militarum troopers engaged in the desperate defence of an isolated Imperial world. Throughout the series, our protagonists will not only fight for their survival, but they’ll also be confronted with choices that have profound consequences for the entire planet.
Thera has seen more than her fair share of combat – just check out the scratches, dents, and gouges that scar her armour.
The same level of detail is applied to every surface of her uniform, from the embossed Imperial aquila that stands proudly on her chestplate to the more intricate chains, straps, and cabling.
Borax, meanwhile, looks like an officer – the natty cap is testament to that, while that bionic eye is surely testament to a life spent fighting in service to the Emperor.
Both characters are breathtakingly rendered, and we can’t wait to see them in action. But what about the enemies they’re fighting? Well, we reckon the name of the animation might give you a clue as to one of their foes, so let’s confirm your suspicions.
Mark II 'Crusade' armour, lots of spikes, chains, and grisly trophies, plus, of course, those all-important warning chevrons – yep, that’s an Iron Warrior, looking as terrifying as you’d expect from a 10,000-year-old killing machine. What brings him to the world that Thera and Borax are defending? We’ll have to wait to find out – and to see him in action using this antique bolter.
And what about the other enemy the Astra Militarum are up against? Let’s just say that they’re fast, spiky, and every bit as cruel and murderous as the Iron Warriors. Whoever wins, the outlook is gloomy for poor Thera and Borax.
