4 Things You Need to Know About the Next Edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar

AOS3Recap May10 Header01kx34

In case you missed the announcement during Warhammer Fest Online last week, a new dawn is rising over the Mortal Realms as Warhammer Age of Sigmar is set to enter its next edition.

Plenty of changes are on the way, so for now, here are four things that you’ll definitely want to know about the upcoming edition.

The Story Continues

The earth-shattering narrative detailed in the Broken Realms series will soon be coming to a close, as the imprisoned god Kragnos breaks free of his chains and unleashes a rampage of godly proportions upon the realm of Ghur. Following the conclusion of this fourth and final book, the story of the Mortal Realms will continue as Sigmar and the forces of Order wrestle with the arrival of new gods, new monsters, and a surge of life across the land.

If you’ve been keeping up with the Broken Realms story so far, you’ll know the Soul Wars have come to an end following Nagash’s defeat on the slopes of Avalenor, and with it, the tide of death suffusing the land has begun to recede. If you’re thinking it sounds like a great time to get back out into the world and reclaim some long-abandoned land, Sigmar would seem to agree.

Built to Work with Existing Battletomes

The core rules for playing Warhammer Age of Sigmar may be seeing some pretty major changes, but your existing battletomes will work just as well as they always have. In fact, the new edition has been designed around the current books to give you the most seamless transition possible.

That’s not to say they won’t be getting any updates in the future – the changes being made to the core rules allow for all sorts of exciting new opportunities for your favourite factions. In fact, changes to one feature, in particular, will give your armies a hugely updated way to grow as they battle. What is that thing, you ask?

The New and Improved Path to Glory

Warhammer Age of Sigmar has always been a very narrative-driven game, and while the existing rules allow you to follow a champion as they amass glory points and fight for domination, the new edition will expand the campaign system even further.

We’ll have much more information about this narrative game mode coming in the future, but for now, those players who have experienced a Crusade in Warhammer 40,000 might be able to imagine some of the developments your campaign forces will go through on their path to glory.

A New Launch Box Is in the Works

To kick off our introduction to the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, a box packed with brand new miniatures and a special edition of the rule book will be coming. Suffice to say the stunning new Stormcast Eternals we saw on Saturday are making an appearance, but who will they be fighting against?

We’re afraid you’ll have to wait for more details on that too, but we guarantee you won’t be expecting exactly who’s peering from the swamps and waiting for their moment to strike. Luckily for the forces of Order, they have one of Sigmar’s finest hunters at their head ready to descend in a blaze of lightning and fury.
