Pre-order for Broken Realms: Kragnos is only one day away, and the rampaging god of earthquakes is set to make a big impact in Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Seriously, we had a look at some of his abilities during Warhammer Fest Online, and he’s shaping up to be a real monster on the battlefield.
Luckily, he’s not the only powerful fighter arriving this week, and at least one of them might be able to help you out when the Kragnos very loudly comes knocking. Take a look at what they can do, then choose who you’d pick as your battle buddy.
Lord Kroak
As the only one on our roster who’s even older than Kragnos himself, Lord Kroak has had aeons to perfect his magical skills. Not only is he able to cast four spells each turn, he can attempt to unbind four spells as well. Such is his mastery of the arcane, Kroak doesn’t even need to be able to see the spell he’s trying to unbind.
Kroak’s magical abilities are legendary, but his real trump card is something you might not expect – being dead. With his ancient and withered form held together by the immense willpower of his spirit, few weapons can hope to do more than scratch his ornate palanquin. This ancient slann boasts an impressive 18 Wounds – what’s more, every phase, you can heal them. You have to hit this frog-like being pretty hard to make him… well, croak.
With such a powerful defensive ability, even Kragnos may have trouble landing a killing blow on the elder Slann. One thing’s for sure, it would be a legendary clash only one would walk (or float) away from.
Dexcessa, Talon of Slaanesh*
Of the twins that comprise Slaanesh’s Newborn, Dexcessa is without a doubt the most at home in the fury of battle. Appropriately for one named the Talon of Slaanesh, their long claws and martial grace reap a heavy tally of souls for the Dark Prince, all while the ecstasy of bloodletting drives them to ever more terrifying feats of slaughter.
As you might imagine, this ability gets stronger and stronger as the fight goes on, so it’s doubly important to keep out of the way of that hefty Dread Mace Kragnos is carrying. While not as tough as the End of Empires himself, Dexcessa’s speed and hypnotic patterned wings allow them to misdirect swings that lesser creatures would barely see coming.
With a combination of blistering attacks and agile defence, Dexcessa is sure to give Kragnos a run for his money, but could they clinch the victory? That’s for you to decide.
Galen and Doralia Ven Denst
Okay, yes, they’re something of an underdog in this fight, but the ageing witch hunter and his equally capable daughter have more fight in them than you might expect for a mortal pair. Having dedicated their lives to combating rampant magics and daemonic threats, they’re very used to playing off each others’ strengths, working together to take down much greater threats.
Kragnos might not be a wizard or a daemon - the Ven Densts’ preferred prey - but their runic weaponry can still deal damage. Fragile though they may be in comparison to a rampaging deity of Destruction, their single-minded determination can see even the mighty strikes of the Dread Mace blunted.
We won’t deny that they have their work cut out for them in this fight, but the humans of Ghur have spent a long time surviving against terrible odds in the Realm of Beasts, and we think they might just be able to survive an encounter with Kragnos. Maybe.

* A greater daemon might not be the first image ‘hero’ conjures, but really it’s all a matter of perspective.
** If you wanted to take multiple, we wouldn’t blame you. He’s a scary chap.
