7 Things To Do in Ghur – The Realm So Violent It’s Eating Itself

AoSDaily1 Jun1 Header

The Realm of Beasts is the focal point of the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar and is a key setting for the Dominion launch box. As such, we thought we’d take you on a whistle-stop tour of Ghur so that you know what to look out for during your stay.

GhurLore Jun22 RealmofBeasts

1. Discover the Birthplace of Kragnos

GhurLore Jun22 Kragnos

Kragnos, the End of Empires, the God of Destruction, the creature with more nicknames than we can count, was born in Ghur, and it’s something the locals are very proud of. Unfortunately, no one knows exactly where he was born, and many unscrupulous tour guides will claim to show you for the right price. Don’t trust them. Sadly, we can’t ask Kragnos himself – he’s a little busy trying to bring destruction to the Mortal Realms.

2. Visit the Beautiful City of Excelsis

GhurLore Jun22 Excelsis

The incredible harbour city of Excelsis is a must-visit while in Ghur. In theory, it’s one of the safest places in the entire realm. Of course, it’s constantly assailed by the forces of Destruction, but they haven’t managed to destroy the city. Yet.* While you’re there, make sure you check out the Spear of Mallus – this monolith is said to be a sliver of the World-that-Was, infused with the strands of raw prophecy. Obviously, we don’t need that to know you’ll have a fabulous time in the City of Secrets.

3. Hide From the Kruleboyz

GhurLore Jun22 Kruleboyz

The vicious Kruleboyz orruks come from Ghur and can be found living in the many swamps. Be wary of these greenskins – all orruks are cruel, but these are particularly well-named. If you’re in any doubt as to why you should be avoiding them, check out what happened to the last load of tourists who didn’t.

4. Go Hunting With Yndrasta

GhurLore Jun22 Yndrasta

Yndrasta is Sigmar’s new prime huntress, and she knows that the best hunting in the Mortal Realms is to be found in Ghur. From ogors to gargants and Maw-krushas to dragon emperors, all of the impressive trophies are in the Realm of Beasts. One thing that even Yndrasta can’t hunt, though, is the landscape itself. Not only is it dangerous to anyone foolish enough to visit Ghur, but it also consumes itself, constantly changing, evolving, and getting even deadlier.

5. Feed Beastgrave

GhurLore Jun22 Beastgrave

Lots of things are alive in Ghur that you might not expect to be, such as a living mountain. Many have ventured to Beastgrave, some seeking to desecrate it for their Dark Gods, while others hope to destroy it altogether. Whatever you want from your visit, we recommend taking along a snack – that’s the best way to make the mountain sit up for that perfect tourist photo.

6. Play Hide and Seek With the Trees

GhurLore Jun22 Trees

If you thought a living mountain was weird, you’ve not seen anything yet. Even the forests in Ghur are alive, but not in the same way that there are tree spirits in Ghyran, the Realm of Life. Here the forests stalk their prey at night, sinking their root-tips in the corpses of the fallen to feast. When we say you’ll be playing hide and seek, you’d better hope these trees don’t find you.

7. Grab a Bite to Eat With the Mawtribes

GhurLore Jun22 Mawtribes

After all that exploring, you’ll be feeling pretty hungry. Fortunately, the Realm of Beasts is full of ogors, happily cooking away with their Great Mawpots. If you’re lucky, you might find a tribe that will share their food with you. If you’re unlucky, you’ll find yourself in the mawpot. Look on the bright side though, you were delicious – and it’s much better than being eaten by a Kraken-eater Mega-Gargant.

If this tour has inspired you to visit Ghur, the easiest way to venture there is to grab the new Dominion boxed set, featuring both Yndrasta and a whole heap of Kruleboyz. Make sure you act fast, though, as it’s selling quickly.
