As you may remember from the third day of Warhammer Fest Online, a range of new novels are coming to your bookshelves from some of your favourite Black Library authors. That also means there’s a bounty of glamourous special editions on the way, so we’ve picked out five we know you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for over the coming months.
Storm of Iron
Storm of Iron by Graham McNeill follows the beleaguered garrison of Hydra Cordatus, an Imperial bastion under siege, as they face off against the traitorous Iron Warriors who seek to conquer their world. Against the millennia of experience and cold-blooded siege tactics of their chaotic foes, can the defenders hold out until help arrives? And what prize could the Iron Warriors be willing to throw away so many lives for?
This story is a fascinating look at one of the most brutal and merciless of the Traitor Space Marine Legions, and it’s an excellent chance to experience their tactics ahead of their appearance in Iron Within, which is coming to Warhammer+.
In addition to the novel, this signed special edition comes with two short stories – ‘Halfbreed’ and ‘Warbreed’ – also penned by Graham McNeill and is presented with coloured page edges, a ribbon bookmark, and an exclusive full-art page.
Warhawk
As the apocalyptic Siege of Terra nears its conclusion, the Loyalist defenders of the Imperial Palace abandon caution and launch desperate gambits to delay their traitorous brethren for as long as they possibly can.
In perhaps the most audacious move of them all, White Scars Primarch Jaghatai Khan makes for the critical Lion’s Gate space port with only his own legion at his back. Despite the presence of one of his warp-empowered brothers, Khan must break through and liberate the port, or the entire Terran system will be doomed.
Continue the epic Siege of Terra series with Warhawk by Chris Wraight, resplendent in a deluxe special edition with a die-cast metal inlay on the cover. Get the full scoop on this critical operation with a new dramatis personae section complete with character busts of the major players, giving you a better insight than ever before into the attack on Lion’s Gate.
Double Eagle
If you’ve been keeping up with the history of Gaunt’s Ghosts, you may remember the world of Phantine from the novel Guns of Tanith. Now the Phantine Air Corps’ classic story Double Eagle (by the inimitable Dan Abnett) is back with a new special edition, following the famed pilots of the XX Fighter Corps as they struggle in a desperate air war against seemingly endless waves of heretic fighters.
This special version of the novel is signed by the author and contains a new introduction, full-art page, luxurious matt cover, and a ribbon page marker.
The Twice-dead King: Ruin
Exiled to a miserable planet with only a handful of decrepit Necron Warriors at his side, the disgraced Lord Oltyx dreams of nothing more than reclaiming his rightful seat at the head of a dynasty that was ripped away from him by treason.
When conflict with invading Orks reveals an even greater threat on the horizon, Oltyx must swallow his pride and return to the throneworld that cast him out for help, lest the throne he desires be reduced to a mountain of ashes.
Delve into a brand new story of the ancient Necron race with The Twice-dead King: Ruin by Nate Crowley, available soon in a luxury special edition. Inside the foil inlaid cover (complete with some rather fancy gilt page edges), you’ll find an exclusive author’s introduction, signature, and ‘The Life of Jethras the Martyr’ short story to boot.
There’s a sequel in the works too, as we found out during Warhammer Fest Online, so this is the perfect time to get started with the series.
Volpone Glory
Finally, we return to the Sabbat Worlds Crusade with a story of the notorious 50th Royal Volpone, known as ‘the Bluebloods’.* The haughty soldiers take pride of place at the head of a vital Imperial offensive against the Khornate warband known as the Blood Pact, but their resolve and honour are sorely shaken when they find themselves embroiled in the bloodiest battle of attrition in their regiment’s history.
It takes an unlikely hero rising through the ranks to tip the balance back in the Imperium’s favour, as the Blood Pact’s inscrutable plans threaten to derail the war once again.
The signed and numbered special edition of Volpone Glory features an exclusive introduction and afterword by author Nick Kyme, along with an extra short story and full-art page.
