Have you got any idea how hard it is to build a house in the Mortal Realms? We didn’t either, so we asked the design team behind the range of fantastic scenery pieces coming to Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
It turns out you require a nexus syphon to shield your citizens’ souls, then you need some guardian idols for their protective magics. Finally, you have to build the house really fast because there might be an orruk warband over that hill coming to kick everything down.
Having to construct all that is bad news for citizens of the Mortal Realms, but it’s good news for us – the new scenery will make our battlefields look amazing.
The New Frontier
As often as not, Dawnbringer Crusades are missions of reclamation rather than discovery. Sites of ancient strongholds from the Age of Myth lay strewn across the Mortal Realms, and powerful geomantic forces converge at these ruins. This is where the foundations of new Dawnbringer settlements are laid.
You can see evidence of these ancient cities in the scenery itself – the pillars on which the nexus syphon stands have been built to different heights to accommodate the ruins upon which the artefact is perched.
The Extremis Starter Set – the largest of three brand new starter sets for Warhammer Age of Sigmar – offers one of your first chances to get your hands on a nexus syphon.
In this jam-packed boxed set, the arcane construction is accompanied by two armies and everything you need to play the game, as well as a double-sided gaming board and four more pieces of scenery – including one guardian idol, two domicile shells, and the potentially life-saving pile of pillars.* That’s enough to keep your crusaders safe(ish) and make sure your tabletop looks fantastic.
There’s even more thematic scenery on the way, too. The Extremis Edition Realmscape Expansion Set is also available to pre-order this Saturday.
This awesome box provides you with another double-sided gaming board and five pieces of plastic Dawnbringer Crusade terrain – two domicile shells, two guardian idols, and one stack of building materials. It’s a perfect way to round out your existing collection or supplement the scenery from your Extremis Starter Set.
Picking up just one of these terrain sets will evoke the tension of the Dawnbringer Crusades and add character to your games. Combine the two, though, and you’ve got enough terrain to complete a nascent settlement in its entirety, with plenty of obstacles to play 1,000-point games.
Whether you’re filling the shoes of the forces of Order and defending your new home or harnessing the powers of Chaos, Destruction, or Death to defeat Sigmar on behalf of some rather dark and angry gods, a healthy helping of fresh scenery lets you recreate these brutal conflicts on your tabletop.
These mighty and magically potent places are worth fighting for, regardless of your allegiance. Be sure to pick up a set (or two!) to bring your tabletop to life.
