It’s almost time to deploy your operatives into battle as Kill Team: Octarius arrives for pre-order this Saturday, for a special two-week period, joined by a host of other releases as we saw in yesterday’s Sunday Preview. You’re probably going to want to learn how to play it, so to follow on from our recent look at the turn structure, we’ve got three video tutorials to get you up to speed with the all-new Kill Team.
Getting Started
Before you send your troops off to the killzone, you’re going to want to get a few things sorted out first. First and foremost, you’ll want to familiarise yourself with the new datacards – they’re rather different from what you might be used to and contain all sorts of new rules and characteristics.
The Initiative Phase and the Strategy Phase
Once your kill teams have been selected and the mission greenlit, the game begins. Each turn (aka ‘Turning Point’) begins with the opposing commanders making a number of tactical decisions. Seizing the initiative means you’ll have the chance to choose which of your operatives gets the crucial first activation while activating Strategic Ploys grants powerful benefits to your kill team that can change the course of the game.
The Firefight Phase
Whether you’re playing an intensely competitive matched play mission or furthering your kill team’s story in a narrative play game, the rules for fighting it out on the battlefield are the same. Soon after Kill Team: Octarius was announced, we saw how activations alternate between each commander, which fills the game with back-and-forth drama where one daring move can turn the action on its head.
We may be just on the cusp of pre-orders opening for Kill Team: Octarius (and a whole hoard of other Kill Team goodness), but we have a few more peeks into the new edition en route. While you’re at it, head on over to the Kill Team website for the best place to learn about everything new coming soon to your skirmish tabletop.
