When the Stormcast Eternals go to war, they are accompanied by gryph-beasts of many varieties, feathery companions that are as savage in combat as they are unerringly loyal.
They come in all shapes and sizes, from nimble gryph-hounds on the hunt with a Knight-Judicator, to swift gryph-chargers pulling magnificent Stormstrike Chariots.
Here at Warhammer Community, we are experts on all things fluffy, so we put our heads together to bring you our very accurate ratings of a few of these wonderful boys and girls.
Stormstrike Chariot Gryph-chargers
A special breed of gryph-charger found in the mountains of Azyr, these feathery fellows are uncommonly muscular. In battle, they draw Stormstrike Chariots, crashing into enemy lines with the power of a lightning strike from Azyr. They also love a sweet treat.
Vanguard Pallador Grpyh-chargers
The biggest of all gryph-chargers, these noble steeds carry their Vanguard-Pallador masters into battle, channelling the winds aetheric, and moving almost faster than the eye can see. Despite this, they spend most of their time lazing about in the pastures of Azyr. Extremely good.
Knight-Judicator’s Gryph-hounds
Gryph-hounds have an innate ability to sense corruption, which makes them excellent lookouts. Knight-Judicators bring two into battle, so they can concentrate on sniping enemy Heroes in the pandemonium.
Enemies who attempt to take these elite rangers by surprise end up startled by the squawk of a gryph-Hound who has sniffed them out, meeting a swift death at the business end of the Knight-Judicator’s terminus greatbow.
Gryph-hound Pack
What could be better than this? Six incredibly good and noble gryph-hounds hunting together. With an inherent hatred of all things evil, these puppers are equally parts vicious and adorable, a potent mix that makes the forces of Chaos grimace in disgust.
Griff Oberwald
This fleet-footed blitzer is most at home on the bloodied pitches of… Blood Bowl? Hang on a minute, that’s “Griff”, not “gryph”. Well, he’s definitely fierce, and who can resist those rugged good looks?
Sleek
This shocking white Gryph-hound fights obediently alongside Drakan Celestus for all eternity, due to the Katophrane curse which originated in Shadespire and has since spread to the Direchasm. Easily the most loyal of all the gryph-hounds.
Archibald
Every gryph-beast is named by their Stormcast Eternal masters, earning powerful appellations such as Stormbeak, Sleek, or Azuretalon. But no name is as well known throughout the realms as Archibald. The star of our webcomic Roll Models is so cute he’s even struck a merchandising deal.
Not a bad boy among them. And with the Knight-Judicator and Thunderstrike Chariot making their way into Stormcast Eternals armies soon, you’ll be able to bolster your collection of feathery friends. While we'd previously hoped you’d be poring over pages of gryph-based content in the new Stormcast Eternals battletome this month, not even Sigmar's chosen are immune to the ongoing global disruption. Rest assured that the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Warclans battletomes will both be available to pre-order in September.
Head over to the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Facebook page and the Warhammer Community Twitter to give us your own ratings of the best hounds in the Mortal Realms. We’d also love it if you share your own fluffy buddies.
