Warhammer Day 2021 – Dungeon Bowl Is Back and It's Bloodier Than Ever

There’s never a dull moment in the worlds of Warhammer – and this Warhammer Day has made that more apparent than ever. We’ve seen exciting updates for Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, so it’s now time to get super serious about one of the silliest games in all of Warhammer – Blood Bowl.

Fans of American Football* know that college rivalries can make it feel like a whole different game, but in the twisted reality of Blood Bowl, “college” has a completely different meaning.

Dungeon Bowl is back – BIG TIME. Fans of a certain vintage will fondly recall this madcap game of subterranean sports mayhem, but if you’re not familiar, Dungeon Bowl is Blood Bowl played in cavernous, winding dungeons, arranged by the eight Colleges of Magic. The wizards put mixed teams together for their own amusement, and make the rules – and magical traps – as chaotic as possible for maximum carnage.

The first challenge? Your players have to explore the dungeon and rummage through treasure chests until they find the ball. Once one of the teams has it, they only need to score one touchdown to win the game. But that’s not as easy as it sounds...

Every team is hand-picked by a wizard from one of the eight colleges, so you’ll see all manner of races and positions playing for both sides. There’s no pitch, no line of scrimmage, and few rules. You WILL find loads of portals, however, as well as tricksy traps and challenges. There MIGHT be a dragon…

Fans from back in the day will go wild for this edition – it sports a modern look, stunning board tiles, and 3D components like the chests and portals, plus all the tweaks and updates that make Blood Bowl faster and better than ever before. If you’re looking to mix things up, you can put your existing teams together in new ways and get more out of your regular Blood Bowl nights.

Dungeon Bowl also happens to be a fantastic way to learn the rules of Blood Bowl. With a thrilling narrative and setting, classic fantasy elements, and manic fun, it feels more like an immersive adventure game at times. Once you’ve played a few games, however, you’ll know just about everything you need for full games of Blood Bowl, making the transition simple.

In short, it expands on everything that makes Blood Bowl amazing – especially the havoc. Dungeon Bowl is a fully formed game in its own right, including everything you need to play in the box, and there are literally loads of available teams and players to grow your collection in a variety of different directions.

* A rather tame team sport that seems to be based loosely on Blood Bowl, albeit without any of the good bits like adding spikes to the ball, and chainsaws. Their safety gear also seems oddly focused on protecting the player, as opposed to hurting their opponents. To each their own…
