We’ve seen some incredible reveals during the Warhammer Day Online Preview, including a new Warhammer 40,000 battlebox, the Maggotkin of Nurgle battletome, and expansions for Warcry and Blood Bowl. Now it’s time to run out the colours for the next Warhammer Underworlds warband.
Blackpowder’s Buccaneers are the first warband expansion for this season of Warhammer Underworlds, following the Harrowdeep boxed set. They consist of an ogre pirate and his gnobblar crew – and being a pirate, he of course has to have a menagerie, so he’s also accompanied into battle by his pet parrot and a monkey. Not just any monkey, you understand – Mange is a monkey with a terrible attitude and a knife that’s perfect for cracking open crab shells.
They’ll be released early next year, and as with all new warbands, they’ll have their own complete deck ready to jump straight into the new Rivals format.*
Being the first warband expansion for Harrowdeep, there are also a few hints as to what’s to come – as we saw in our recent roadmap for next year. Now that pretty much all of the main factions from Warhammer Age of Sigmar have warbands, expect to see the designers come up with some strange new ideas for Warhammer Underworlds. Who knows what we’ll see next – Aelf pirates? Skaven pirates (pi-rats, surely?), or maybe it could be something truly unexpected, such as a warband that aren’t pirates at all!**
So, splice your mainbraces, prepare your timbers for a shivering, and get ready to make other warbands walk the plank because Blackpowder’s Buccaneers are coming to plunder Harrowdeep! Will you be joining this piratical crew or have you already picked a warband to stand against them? Join us now over on the Warhammer Underworlds Facebook page and let us know.
