Each of the exemplary battle articles has given you a free mini-campaign for The Horus Heresy. This week, it’s time to join the Shadow Crusade as the World Eaters take on the Ultramarines in the Battle of Armatura.
So far, we’ve played through The Siege of Hydra Cordatus, The Battle of Pluto, and The Defence of Sotha. Now you can replay the epic battles from the Black Library novel Betrayer. Along with new missions, there are rules for a new World Eaters unit – the Red Hand Destroyer Assault Squad. Here’s Andy Hoare with the lowdown on the latest exemplary battle pack.Andy: This month, we're taking a break from special Terminator units* and looking at a special type of Destroyer squad, which won't be the last variant of this squad that we'll explore over the next few months. It was for this very reason that Forge World brought back the MkIV Destroyer Squad set recently! Now is a great time to try out this unusual unit, especially if you're playing a Zone Mortalis game,** where I've found my Emperor's Children Destroyers to be quite murderous!
As ever, the aim with these special units is to explore corners of the background that haven't yet made it into a gaming supplement, giving a fresh take on existing unit types. In so doing, it affords us all a chance to make and paint something different for our Age of Darkness armies.
Thanks, Andy! Before we get onto the rules, let’s quickly familiarise ourselves with where in the galaxy this action is taking place.
Okay, we’ve got our bearings, let’s get to battle! Here’s your pdf for The Battle of Armatura, featuring three new missions and additional rules, including how to add clouds of choking dust to your games with Fog of War.
Update: some keen-eyed Horus Heresy players spotted an erroneous rules-term in the pdf published earlier this week (the word "detachment" in the unit's 'Bearers of the Blood Hand' special rule.). This has now been changed to "unit" in order to bring the rule in line with the correct terminology.
Grab yourself a MkIV Destroyer Squad to build your own Red Hand Assault Squad and teach those Ultramarines what war is really all about. Then join us on the Horus Heresy Facebook page and let us know how you’re getting on with these new missions.
* We’ve recently shared some special rules for Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists Cataphractii units and Night Lords Tartaros.
** Grab the rules for fighting Age of Darkness games in the Zone Mortalis.
