It’s Wednesday once again over at Warhammer+, which means a fresh new batch of content to keep you entertained in the run-up to Christmas. First up, we have a very special seasonal Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Battle Report this week, in which Da Red Gobbo faces down the stone-cold Scrooges of the Space Wolves, who are absolutely, definitely out to ruin Christmas.
Buckle up for a wild reindeer-squig ride featuring a unique scenario from the Warhammer Studio, complete with special rules and Tactical Ploys with some groan-inducing punny names. It also features a beautiful Christmas-themed battle board, replete with great piles of snow and festive firs.
Nick and Louise join us this week, with Nick commanding the stern forces of the Space Wolves and Louise leading the irrepressible Red Gobbo and his rambunctious Revolutionary Committee. We spoke to them about what’s in store.
Warhammer Community: Tell us about the kill team you're playing with.
Nick: I'm leading the mighty and brave Space Wolves Infiltrators who have been sent into the deep forest to disrupt the plans of Da Red Gobbo! In charge of my Kill Team is Nikolai Whitebeard, my Pack Leader, an Infiltrator of great repute, able to sniff out a grot-den from miles away. He is accompanied by his medic, Arngeir the Healer, and four Infiltrators – Erik Allwinter, Asgeir Iceblade, Hrothgar Hearthsworn, and Morgrim the Miser.
Louise: I’ll be in charge of a whole workshop of delightful little grots run by the big(ish) boss, Da Red Gobbo! Hidden in the mysterious woods surrounding the grotto are caves full of sleeping squigs which, while not exactly ‘friendly’, may be persuaded to provide some ceramite-biting power in a pinch.
Even deeper in the woods, there’ve been rumours of deep rumbling and huge footsteps in the snow… It’s probably fine though.
WarCom: What mission is your kill team hoping to achieve? Why is it important?
Nick: My Infiltrators have snuck into Da Red Gobbo's Grotto to destroy the "gifts" that he's threatening to deliver to the citizens of the Imperium on Sanguinala Eve. It might sound like I've been sent in to ruin the festive plans of one of Warhammer's most beloved heroes... and you'd be right.
Louise: My mission is perhaps the most important mission any living grot has ever undertaken – to save Sanguinala and deliver gifts to the citizens of the Imperium!
Okay yes, these “gifts to the Imperium” are piles of extremely dangerous explosives. Sure, by “save”, I mean “high-velocity detonation on impact fuelled by intense tiny green malice”. But it’s about time the grots had their own special day, and this year Sanguinala should go off with a bang!
WarCom: What can you tell us about the killzone you're battling in?
Nick: Da Red Gobbo's grotto is a snow-covered forest, where his Gretchin assistants work long and hard making the gifts. You can see the workshop on the board surrounded by various machinery and workings and you can also see Da Red Gobbo's rocket known as "Da Slay", loaded with presents.
The board was made by the talented Warhammer+ Army Painting team, Andy and James, who really went for it with the festive theme!
Louise: This board is all of your scrappy holiday dreams and nightmares come true at once! The team has put an incredible amount of time and detail into it and I've been excited to play this game for weeks!
WarCom: How do you plan to come out on top?
Nick: I'm going to use the high APL of the Space Marines to move in quickly, and use the Boom! Humbug! mission action to blow up those piles of gifts as soon as I can... and perhaps even dispatch Da Red Gobbo in the meantime! Whatever happens, I need to stop those gifts from being delivered to the sleeping citizens of the Imperium on Sanguinala Eve...
Louise: I have three piles of presents which my grots must protect at all costs, and whilst my Kill Team may lack fancy gubbins and big scary shooties, one thing it does have in spades is bodies. I’m going to do my best to gather my little guys around those gifts and make sure they’re well protected from those pesky Space Wolves and their dastardly plans.
As well as that, I may have a couple of surprising tricks up my sleeve to sway the game in my favour…
Will Da Red Gobbo and his cantankerous mount, Bounca, successfully deliver their generous gifts? Or will the miserly Space Wolves put a stop to Da Revolushun for good? You’ll have to tune in to Warhammer TV to find out!
Warhammer+ gives you access to an ever-expanding selection of Warhammer content, including lore, painting masterclasses, and plenty of rare and out-of-print Warhammer publications from the Warhammer Vault.
Speaking of which, here’s what else you can look forward to this week. Hitting the Warhammer Vault is all the lore from War Zone: Pandorax, as well as three issues of White Dwarf from 2013 – issues 404, 405, and 406 – while there’s a special festive edition of Citadel Colour Masterclass showing you how to do wintery bases. And last – but very much not least – another episode of Hammer and Bolter, in which a Tech-priest and her Kastelan robot scour the wastelands for a sacred technological relic. What trouble will befall them on this perilous trek into the unknown?
Will you be tuning in to watch Da Red Gobbo’s antics? Have you painted your Red Gobbo miniature and want to show it off? Let us know on Facebook, or share your work with #RateMyGobbo on Twitter.
