Prepare for the Murk of Harrowdeep With a Look Back at Black Library’s Warhammer Underworlds Tales

WHUW Harrowdeep Sep28 Header

The action of Warhammer Underworlds routinely shifts from one mysterious and deadly place to another. Currently, many daring warbands find themselves in the undine dungeon of Harrowdeep, in the abyssal depths of the oceans of Ulgu, the Realm of Shadow.

Beyond the stories you tell as you battle it out in these labyrinthine halls, there are tales told by our Black Library authors featured in the upcoming story collection, Harrowdeep.

Before we plunge into this chasmic ruin, we thought we’d take a look back at previous volumes that have accompanied the setting shifts in Warhammer Underworlds.

Shadespire: The Mirrored City

BL Underworlds Jan12 Books1

The first edition of Warhammer Underworlds took place in the Mirrored City. A once-proud metropolis ruled by the powerful Katophranes, now all that remains is a husk. All its inhabitants are forever doomed to wander an endless purgatory thanks to Nagash, the jealous God of Death.

Rival warbands drawn to the mysteries and treasures of Shadespire find themselves trapped in a cycle of life and death. Among them is Seguin Reynar, an ex-freeguild soldier seeking his fortune – follow his quest through this doomed citadel in the action-packed novel Shadespire: The Mirrored City by Josh Reynolds.

Beastgrave

BL Underworlds Jan12 Books2

In the savage wilds of Ghur, the living mountain Beastgrave slumbers. The allure of the treasure of dead adventurers draws in more victims who find themselves lost within its ever-shifting innards, eventually devoured by the predatory peak.

Within these carnivorous caverns, the Beastlord Ghroth the Rootcutter and the Branchwraith Kyra clash over a dark relic that lies within the perilous passages that writhe within C L Werner’s Beastgrave.

Direchasm

BL Underworlds Jan12 Books3

Beastgrave succumbed to the Katophrane Curse over time. Starved of the sustenance it craved, the mountain awoke from its aeons-long nap.* This violent rousing shifted the amber that had filled its deepest depths, opening up Direchasm.

Much like the various warbands that plumbed its bloody depths, a variety of authors including Graeme Lyon, Anna Stephens, Ben Counter, and Nicholas Wolf braved its innards to tell tales of guts and glory in Direchasm.

Harrowdeep

BL Underworlds Jan12 Books4

The moist, macabre dungeon of Harrowdeep is known as the place where light dies – which rings true for much of shadowy Ulgu. The treacherous waters above have begun to drag in unfortunate souls through ominous whirlpools. These unlucky few find themselves trapped in a spiralling maze, their only company the skeletons of previous wanderers, now encased in shadeglass.

Not every inhabitant of the watery grave is unwitting, however, and Harrowdeep brings together three stories that find questing Stormcasts-errant, rival pirates, and a pair of priests make their way deep into the horrors, seeking treasure, glory, power, and salvation from the tenebrous torments.

You’ll be able to pre-order Harrowdeep in hardback and ebook this weekend, with an audiobook arriving soon after. If you haven’t already picked up the Harrowdeep boxed game, it’s the perfect way to experience the fast-paced world of Warhammer Underworlds.
