Hold onto your shiny gold hats – Chapter Approved 2022 is up for pre-order tomorrow. Inside you’ll find new missions from the War Zone Nachmund Grand Tournament Pack as well as careful tweaks to matched play points in the Munitorum Field Manual, updates which could have a big impact on how you build your favourite army. The goal? To ensure that Warhammer 40,000 remains a balanced and exciting game.
We've already previewed points changes for certain armies, but you may have noticed the Adeptus Custodes were absent from that sneak peek.
This comprehensive tome was originally supposed to land a little while after Codex: Adeptus Custodes, but they have arrived closer together than originally planned. If you’ve already picked up your codex full of glorious golden guardians, we want to make sure this unexpectedly close release isn’t a barrier to bringing your Custodians to the battlefield.
The Warhammer 40,000 studio has therefore compiled all of the new points values for your Adeptus Custodes armies in an easy-to-access PDF you can download for free right here.
There are a veritable shield host of changes, so we thought we’d highlight some of the most notable tweaks to the Emperor’s finest.
Misericordias are now free for all! These exquisite blades are awarded to Custodians as a symbol of the Magisterium Lex Ultima,* which places them above any law save the Emperor’s will. In the endless war of the 41st Millenium, these weapons are used to deliver the Emperor’s Peace to mortally wounded foes.**
Multiple HQ choices are enjoying a discount, including Valerian and Trajann Valoris himself. If you want to deliver your Custodes to the front lines in style you’ll be happy to see that Venerable Land Raiders and the sleek Coronus Grav-Carrier are falling in price by 20 and 30 points respectively.
Finally, the biggest and most golden boys of all have also seen a cost reduction, as the Telemon Heavy Dreadnought drops by 20 points. Overall, these changes could see you squeeze an extra Custodian or two into your army – which is a big deal when even your rank and file are elite heroes.
Meanwhile, the seditious followers of the Four-armed Emperor needn’t worry. Their deadly new codex stepped from the shadows at the same time as the Custodes arrived, but the points costs for Genestealer Cults armies are all staying exactly the same.
Of course, points changes aren’t all you can look forward to. War Zone Nachmund: Grand Tournament Mission Pack is full of integral updates for competitive play, including amended deployment rules, a whole host of missions you can use in matched play, and 23 updated Secondary Objectives.
Whether you’re aiming to take on the top tables in a tournament, or just want to ensure you’re playing the most balanced and competitive game possible, you won’t want to miss out on these updates. * The Magisterium Lex Ultima roughly translates from High Gothic to "I can do what I want because Dad said so".
** A "fun" euphemism for mercy killing.
