Two incredible Horus Heresy character miniatures are available to pre-order this weekend as part of the Black Library Celebration – Fafnir Rann and Dominion Zephon. We’ve taken a look at the stalwart of the Imperial Fists, and it’s time for the Blood Angels champion to take his moment in the spotlight.
To lose one limb to a xenos blade is unfortunate. Losing two is careless. Three is downright irresponsible. What was Sanguinius teaching his sons? You can read about how Dominion Zephon was wounded, how he joined the Crusader Host on Terra, and how he learned to fight again in The Master of Mankind.
Following the Webway War, Zephon met Arkhan Land.* Using knowledge from the Dark Age of Technology, Land repaired Zephon’s bionics so that he could return to the front lines in the Siege of Terra. There’s more to discover about Land and Zephon’s adventures in Bringer of Sorrows.**
In-game, Zephon’s role as Exarch of the High Host means that he can take a Destroyer Squad as a Retinue to accompany him as he zips around the battlefield melting traitors with twin volkite serpenta pistols known as Lament and Grief.***
He also carries the Spiritum Sanguis, a brutal two-handed sword presented to him when he left to join the Crusader Host. It hits at AP2 and provides an extra attack when more than one enemy model is in base-to-base contact, rewarding you when you get stuck in.
You can download free rules for using Dominion Zephon in your games of The Horus Heresy right here.
Some 10,000 years later, the Blood Angels are still at the forefront, and Black Library Celebration 2022 sees the hardback release of Astorath: Angel of Mercy. Back in the 41st Millennium, Astorath the Grim is drawn to the planet Dulcis to bring peace to the members of the Red Wings Chapter, who are suffering from the Black Rage. But what he discovers there will have major ramifications for all Blood Angels and their successors.
You can learn more about Astorath’s grim occupation as Redeemer of the Lost in the perfectly-titled short stories Redeemer and Redeemed.
Astorath: Angel of Mercy and Dominion Zephon are available for pre-order from Saturday.
* The man who rediscovered the STCs for the Land Raider and Land Speeder, and who selflessly named them after himself.
** You can also learn more about the capers of Land and his psyber-monkey in Into Exile.
*** Unlike with Fafnir Rann, we can’t imagine Zephon brewing IPAs with these names.
