The recent Age of Sigmar Battletome Roadmap unveiled a whole host of upcoming new battletomes – and riding the first wave are the Idoneth Deepkin.* We’ve already shown off powerful new abilities for the Nautilar enclave, who can turtle up by taking Akhelian Leviadons as Battleline units. Today, we’ll be looking at another of the Idoneth’s bond-beasts – the hungering Akhelian Allopex.
These murderous mounts are receiving some welcome improvements in the Era of the Beast. Each hit of the Razorshell Harpoon launcher now inflicts D3 damage, so if your enemy doesn’t fall prey to your giant shark’s tearing maw, they’ll most certainly feel the pain when they’re stuck full of harpoon spears.
Meanwhile, a new ability – called A Merciless Shiver – allows Allopex units with more than one model to remain coherent within 3” of each other, instead of 1”. Sharks value their personal space, and this ability will ensure that these vast and agile predators can stay mobile when facing down foes.
While Allopexes can be commanded by any of the Idoneth factions, these vicious selachian sea-predators are particularly beloved by the Fuethán enclave, who are just as bloodthirsty as their deadly mounts. To reflect this, players who choose the Fuethán enclave will now be able to take Akhelian Allopexes as Battleline units.
Fuethán Allopexes are particularly known for their aggressive skill when hunting in groups – as such, you can also can take three units of single Allopexes in a special formation known as a Bloodthirsty Shiver. These Allopexes are individual units, but you’ll want them swimming together to unleash their full potential.
Why? In your combat phase, you can pick one Allopex from each Bloodthirsty Shiver in your army, and give that model a deadly buff to its Ferocious Bites attack. For the rest of the phase, every unmodified hit roll of 6 lands an extra hit – or two extra hits, if it’s within 3” of another unit in the same Bloodthirsty Shiver. It’s perfect for ripping foes apart after your Namarti Reavers put some blood in the water.
