The long-awaited next instalment in Black Library’s Primarchs series is nearly upon us, and we can finally draw back the curtain on the book’s title. A brutal campaign calls our protagonist’s methods into question, and the sire of the XIV Legion will need to stand his ground against the inquisition of two noble primarchs in Mortarion: The Pale King.
This book is coming to Black Library shelves in the near future, another chapter in the ongoing tale of the Emperor’s sons – and the motives that drove them to near-destruction at the height of the Horus Heresy.
Having only recently taken command of the Death Guard, Mortarion is sent to pacify the Galaspar System, whose leaders greedily enrich themselves at the expense of their population. The response is so swift and brutal that even the Imperium baulks at the carnage, although Mortarion shows no sign of remorse.
This story takes us into the mind of one fated to join Horus’ rebellion, and much like Alpharius: Head of the Hydra, it’s an invaluable look into what makes one of the more reclusive primarchs tick. Few records exist of the time before he ascended as a mighty Daemon Primarch, and The Pale King opens a brand new window into the life of Mortarion while he was still mortal.
From the dazzling skill of Fulgrim in The Palatine Phoenix to the raging madness of Angron in Slave of Nuceria, each book characterises these legendary figures like never before. Fans of the Death Guard, Nurgle, and huge, impossibly determined warriors will get to learn about their scion up close and personal – and see seeds laid for the deadly betrayal of his father.
Keep an eye on Warhammer Community to find out when Mortarion: The Pale King will be up for pre-order, and get started with the Black Library Primarchs series to find out just who the legends called primarchs really are.
