Kill Team: Nachmund is almost here, and the latest expansion for the ultimate sci-fi skirmish game pits swift Aeldari Corsairs against the brutal might of the Heretic Astartes. It’s quite possibly the most aggressive Kill Team boxed set so far – and by pledging themselves to the Chaos Gods, your Legionaries can become even deadlier.
Every kill team boasts an array of specialisms, but the Legionary kill team goes one step further by letting you assign a Mark of Chaos to each of your operatives. Proclaim your allegiance to the Dark Gods, and you’ll be gifted with new abilities and ploys – both Tactical and Strategic – to match. Don’t worry, there’s no danger of your prized operatives ending up as a Chaos Spawn.
Khorne
Pledge yourself to the Lord of Rage with the Mark of Khorne.* As you might expect, this bloodthirsty blessing rewards you for throwing your operatives forward into combat – Khorne’s followers fight with such fury that even a glancing blow can become a deadly critical hit.
Blood for the Blood God isn’t just the name of an incredible Citadel Colour paint – it’s also a Strategic Ploy you can use to ensure that your frenzied operatives hit even harder when they charge.
The Mark of Khorne is ideal for any of your operatives that really like to get stuck in – especially the vicious knife-wielding Shrivetalon.
Nurgle
Spread the blessings of the Grandfather with the Mark of Nurgle.** Legionary operatives are already pretty hardy, with a 3+ save and 12 (or more!) wounds, but Nurgle makes them even tougher to put down. These pustulent partisans can shrug off even critical hits at range – perfect for blunting a Corsair’s Rending shuriken weaponry.
The inexorable and relentless nature of Nurgle’s followers is represented by the Implacable Strategic Ploy.
Being able to ignore his injuries means that your Heavy Gunner can employ his full Ballistic Skill even after bearing the brunt of enemy fire – time to rev up that reaper chaincannon and gun down the opposition.
Slaanesh
Want to add some speed to your operatives? Slaanesh*** is waiting to embrace you with open arms – and tentacles, and crab claws, and other appendages. Give your soul to the Dark Prince for extra swiftness, and allow your operatives to bound across the warzone with sinuous grace.
Speed is nothing without power, but She Who Thirsts can help you there too! Turn your operatives into graceful killers with the appropriately titled Strategic Ploy, Graceful Killer.
Mark your Legionary Anointed as a Slaaneshi worshipper to help him dash across the battlefield even faster – before tearing enemy operatives apart with his daemonic claw. A worse fate for a hapless Aeldari pirate, we can’t imagine…
Tzeentch
Just as planned, we end with Tzeentch.**** With the insight granted by the Mark of Tzeentch, your operatives will be able to tap into the power of the warp and seek out weak spots in enemy armour – great for landing those vital critical hits.
The Architect of Fate can also provide his followers with a measure of paranormal protection, through the Aetheric Ward Strategic Ploy.
With a 4+ invulnerable save, you’ll be able to keep your most valuable operatives alive even in the face of Aeldari’s deadliest ranged weapons – no wonder the Legionary Chosen looks so happy.
As you can see, you’ll get the most out of these Strategic Ploys by devoting your kill team fully to one Chaos God – or you can mix and match your Marks for greater flexibility. Unfortunately, not all of the Ruinous Powers play well together – if you have any KHORNE operatives, you can’t include fighters pledged to SLAANESH. Similarly, taking operatives marked by TZEENTCH means that NURGLE is off the table.
Fortunately, you can always take Legionaries with the Mark of Chaos Undivided. These operatives have withstood the maddening temptations of any specific deity, and fight with the luck of the damned.
Will you give your entire kill team the same Mark, to tie them together as a band of special ops sinners? Or will you allow your operatives to express their individuality by spreading different Marks throughout your kill team? Do you prefer a strong strategic focus, or turn-by-turn tactical flexibility? Whatever you need, the Dark Gods have it on offer…
