Are you looking forward to pre-ordering your copy of the Kill Team: Nachmund box this Saturday? You’d better plan on painting up the Aeldari Voidscarred Corsairs – or you might end up face-to-face with one of the deadliest assassins in the game. Actually, they’ll probably appear behind you.
Every member of the Voidscarred exists somewhere in the pirate/ninja/alien diagram, but certain operatives inhabit the extremes. The Shade Runner is one such example – we’re talking ultimate ninja power here.
You may have noticed the funky shell device on her back? If it reminds you of the Warp Spider Aspect Warriors, you’re quite correct – give yourself three-and-a-half internet points. This blink pack enables Shade Runners to perform some pretty wild stunts that’ll have your opponents jumping at every shadow in the kill zone.
The blink pack gives Shade Runners the Fly keyword. They don’t soar with the fancy wings of a Swooping Hawk, instead streaking across the battlefield in an insubstantial blur. Fly allows them to pass through obstacles and other operatives, and ignore vertical distances up or down terrain features instead of running and jumping like an ordinary pirate.
And while she’s using her body-flicker technique to blink around the battlefield, she can slice’n’dice her enemies in the same action, literally right out of nowhere.
For just 1AP, she can both move and attack* with her cruel Hekatarii blades, which do a massive 5 damage on a roll of 5 or 6, or 3 on a regular hit. As the rule states, you can even re-roll that attack because the blades have the Relentless special rule.
The coolest part? The Shade Runner gets this Slicing Attack even while she has Conceal orders, blinking from one piece of cover to another without revealing herself. That’s a totally risk-free attack. And that other set of holstered knives isn’t just a gnarly belt buckle – they’re throwing knives with the Silent special rule, which she can throw without giving up her Conceal order. That’s the most ninja power move possible in a game of Kill Team.
Of course, the Shade Runner is just one operative in the Voidscarred lineup – and each of these swashbuckling Aeldari has their own lethal specialty. But if you read up on the raw killing power of the Legionary Butcher yesterday, you’ll know the Voidscarred need all the tricks they can muster against Heretic Astartes with 10,000 years of murder aforethought.
Keep an eye out for more Kill Team: Nachmund news this week, and get ready to pre-order the box for yourself on Saturday!
* The Hekatarii blades normally roll four dice in melee instead of one, which makes them truly scary when your Shade Runner is ready to reveal herself.
