The Armouring of a Space Marine is hands-down the best four minutes and forty-two seconds of gritty Warhammer lore we’ve ever seen.
To craft the definitive vignette of a Space Marine getting ready for battle, creators had to dig through decades of background lore and consult designers from across the Warhammer Studio. For the inside scoop on just how such an awesome video came to be, we ambushed some of the key people involved and had them spill the beans.
One thing’s clear – the team had a whale of a time working on the Armouring of a Space Marine.
Many Hands Make Warhammer Work
An array of passionate teams collaborate to bring the worlds of Warhammer to life, and getting to consult with everyone from artists to background writers is a treat. Concept sketches, codex entries, and whole libraries of fiction are all brought together into a package that’s uniquely Warhammer, making the Armouring of a Space Marine an iconic part of the 41st Millennium’s lore.
Meet the Serfs
For every Space Marine that hits the battlefield, hundreds of Chapter serfs and servitor attendants labour to keep the war machine rolling. A massive amount of work went into bringing these characters to life,* from their attire and bionics to the difficulty they have in lifting the mighty bolter, all to give viewers one of the first detailed looks into this integral part of a Chapter’s inner workings.
