The trailer for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy hit the internet this week like an orbital lance from an Imperial Battlecruiser.
This cinematic is a real love letter to the grim darkness of the far future, filled with the epic action that fans of the game and the books have always dreamed of seeing in motion. Who’d have thought that we’d ever see or hear Horus actually bringing the galaxy to its knees?
Those who weren’t totally transfixed by the Warmaster’s magnificent eyebrows may have noticed some cool details in the trailer. But did you catch them all?
Praetor vs Praetor
Is that a Praetor hidden underneath that magnificent ‘stache? He seems to be duelling the incredible axe-wielding Praetor from our AdeptiCon coverage – let’s hope this fantastic facial fur also earns the miniature treatment.
Cream of the Crest
How do you prefer your helmet crests? Whether you like them longitudinal or transverse, the Adeptus Astartes in this trailer have you covered. We’ve seen a fair share of crests and back banners in the Horus Heresy range – there’s even an upgrade set for Mark III Space Marines!
This video just goes to show how different battle regalia was in the 31st Millenium. Armour studs were totally in vogue back then.
Ride or Die
The Horus Heresy is the game to play if you love war machines clashing on the grandest possible scale. From the Spartan Assault Tank to the Legion Sicaran Battle Tank, mighty vehicles were mainstays on the front lines throughout the Heresy, giving treadheads plenty to enjoy. But we don’t recognise this tank – what could it be?
Clash of the Titans
Then there are the Titans. It’s always been tricky to comprehend the true scale of these God-Engines, but witnessing them in motion and seeing even the mighty Adeptus Astartes scurry like ants between earthshaking footfalls really underscores just how enormous these machines are. And even a Warlord Titan can’t withstand the destructive force of an orbital lance…
A Banner Day
There’s nothing quite like staking your claim over a freshly dominated planet with a flashy banner extolling your virtues and victories – just ask Maloghurst. The Legion Command Set already offers a fluttering flag for your finest fighters, but these sleek banners look just as appropriate for establishing sovereignty.
The first shot is a deliberate reference to a classic piece of Ultramarines artwork from Warhammer 40,000 – it seems as though the iconic look of Space Marines echoes through the millennia.
Horus Lupercal in the Flesh (and Ceramite)
This isn’t an easter egg – and we’ve already waxed lyrical about his impressive eyebrows – but just look at him. The confidence, the charisma, the mountain of gravel in that voice. This is a man not on a simple mission, but the figurehead of a supernatural pan-galactic landslide.
We see him wielding Worldbreaker, the infamous power maul personally given to him by the Emperor, alongside the Talon of Horus – this lethal power claw will eventually find its way onto the hand of his gene-son Abaddon, who’s still terrorizing the galaxy 10,000 years later.
Plus, check out all the cables connecting him to his signature suit of armour, the Serpent's Scales. His stunning miniature doesn't have these – could that clue help us time the conflict he’s taking part in?
