Warhammer Community Investigates – What Have the Grey Knights of Chaos Gate Been Up To?

In May, Warhammer fans got the chance to assume command of their very own Grey Knight strike force in Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters. In this exciting story, penned by Black Library author Aaron Dembski-Bowden, the Grey Knights face one of their toughest challenges yet.

It’s a race against time as the crew of the Baleful Edict attempt to purge corrupted star systems and combat a sinister plague sent by the forces of Nurgle, all under the watchful eye of their stern Grandmaster Varden Kai – voiced by the legendary Andy Serkis

We caught up with Noah Decter-Jackson, CEO and Creative Director of developers Complex Games Inc., to find out more.

Warhammer Community: How has the reaction from Warhammer fans been?

Noah Decter-Jackson: We’re so happy to have brought something to the table that fans have responded to really positively – and that we as fans of the hobby really wanted to play. People seem to be excited about where the game and its story could go in the future, which of course we are as well.

We’ve received a lot of great support and suggestions from the community for changes and improvements. We try to keep all of that in mind as we look at improving the game and adding to it in the future. It’s always interesting to hear other perspectives, because so many people have their own very specific understanding about the lore.

WC: What do you think Warhammer fans will love most about this game?

Noah: Our fast-paced and aggressive take on turn-based tactical combat, combined with a healthy dose of strategic campaign and ship management, stands out as a unique experience. Wrapping it all together in a compelling story that sets the stage for the ongoing conflict really sets the game apart.

WC: What are you most excited for players to discover?

Noah: The unexpected twists and turns of the story, plus lots of badass master-crafted equipment and psychic powers.

WC: What’s been the most surprising thing from the game’s launch?

Noah: We’ve worked on this game for close to five years – it’s been a passion project for the studio, and a very risky gamble for us as a small independent developer.

Even though I’ve personally been engaged with this hobby a very long time, and even though I thought this game was 100% the right fit before we pitched it, it’s still surprising hearing from fans how much they like the game and feel like it’s something they’ve been missing. That’s really gratifying.

WC: What do you have planned for the future of the game?

Noah: I wish we could share plans now, but we’re hoping we’ll be able to talk more about the future soon.

WC: What’d be your top tip for players starting out with the game?

Noah: Don’t cower behind cover like the Death Guard! You’re commanding the Grey Knights, don’t be afraid to get in close and wreak havoc!
