Since the release of Codex: Chaos Space Marines, a tide of traitors has poured out from the Eye of Terror. Among these are rabble-rousing mobs of Chaos Cultists, the warp-spasmed bodies of the Accursed Cultists, and the slaughter-obsessed, symbiotic Possessed.
These miniatures have ripped their way into the realities of more than a few painters now, who have graciously breathed life into them with outstanding paint jobs.
Darcy Bono
Darcy’s Possessed are a beautiful blend of high-contrast World Eaters armour and disgusting blotchy daemonflesh. Not wanting to be upstaged by their Heretic Astartes superiors, her Cultists are clad in grimy, gore-splattered clothing with some fetching gold-and-yellow details that stand out in the filth.
Aleksandra Cvetanovski and Marko Miladinović (Craftworld Studios)
All the colours of the empyrean spill out onto Aleksandra’s Accursed Cultist, who is rendered in a painterly style which uses unexpected colours for highlights and shadows. Marko’s Possessed features some extremely proficient non-metallic metal technique* on its reflective armour trim, as well as fleshy transfigurations that blend seamlessly into red armour.
Sam Lenz
Golden Demon veteran Sam Lenz brings his inimitable style to a Possessed. He’s contrasted dark saturated areas against splashes of brighter fiery colour to help break up the individual parts of the miniature, without sacrificing that sinister scorched look.
Chris Frosin
Chris Frosin introduces some daring freehand onto a miniature already covered in icky details, including some lovely splatters of blood to mark out this incredibly macabre Night Lord as a ruthless opponent.
Brushstroke
Brushstroke's Possessed maintains a distinctly Chaotic feel even with a novel colour palette that blends buffed blues, bleached bone, and bruised flesh. There’s also some fantastic hazard-stripe work on that techno-organic chainsword – even parasitic daemons agree that safety must come first.
Annie Doughty
Annie’s Possessed mixes white armour with red details, blood-splattered markings, and a gory claw. The luminous green horns and protrusions add an otherworldly feel to a model that’s already an uncanny mix of man and daemon.
Alison Kersley
Alison provides another blood-red take on the Possessed – people are clearly very excited about Angron’s arrival. The subtle purple hues on the fleshy weapons are pumped up even further on the Accursed Torment, whose lilac daemonflesh bursts horrifically from its poor host, contrasting nicely with their remaining mortal flesh.
Crystal McHaffie
For a moment, we’re freed from the bloodlust with Crystal’s Accursed Torment, which dips into turquoise and pink to present something truly otherworldly. Lots of butter-smooth blends accentuate the unreal vibes of this warped beast.
Sylvapaints
Sylvapaint’s Accursed Torment is another showing for saturated reds, with some exceptionally disgusting detail on stretched flesh on the back of the miniature and a superb charcoal-grey daemonic head leering forward, its eyes aglow.
Matthew Herrington
Matthew brings us to a close with a pristine collection, including some Possessed, Accursed Cultists, and regular Cultists – plus members of the Dark Commune! Crisp brushwork and complementary colours combine with brilliant textures to bring this unit to life.
