The Mega-Gargants and Mancrushers are coming – Battletome: Sons of Behemat has hit pre-order, and when they awake from their latest Mawpath-induced food coma, the Ogor Mawtribes will be joining us. But what does the Era of the Beast hold for these monster-wrasslin’ and behemoth-butchering factions?
The Era of the Beast is one of tumultuous change, and Sigmar’s Dawnbringer Crusades are nothing but an irritant for the hard-working forces of Destruction. The Sons of Behemat can spend all day kicking over puny fortresses, only to find these busybody pipsqueaks have raised even more hovels while they weren’t looking. When a warglutt returns from an exhausting Mawpath, the last thing they want is to find a prefabricated settlement where once their homely camp sat.
While these nascent cities provide ample opportunity for stomping and feasting, they are nevertheless a constant headache. Even worse, the little folk who inhabit them often use their fancy words to confound the ogors and gargants, binding them into mercenary contracts or swindling them out of their territory.
The primal power flowing forth from Ghur, aided by the emergence of Kragnos, has proven the tipping point. Not that they’re entirely united behind the Earthquake God – he’s certainly impressive, but the forces of Destruction are seldom united over anything.
In fact, the Bloodgullet Tribe of Ghur views the End of Empires as an imposter, for his destructive efforts do nothing to feed the hunger of Ghur. Each of the mighty fissures opened by his hooves is yet another open mouth that remains blasphemously unfed.
Most gargants respect Kragnos’ immense might, but some see him as a false idol. Chief among these dissidents is King Brodd – to him, Kragnos is a truly lacklustre substitute for Behemat. For starters, he has hooves rather than big stompy feet.
The crazed Beast-smashers, gargants seized by the savage energy of their many-faced god, see Kragnos as the ultimate hunting trophy – his horned head a prize to be claimed. Fights between pro- and anti-Kragnos tribes of gargants are not uncommon, creating yet another pointless schism between these cantankerous colossi.
With everything reaching a fever pitch in Ghur, there are plenty of tall tales to consume in Battletomes: Sons of Behemat, and yet more to satiate yourself when Battletome: Ogor Mawtribes catches up on smaller legs.
