The cold-blooded guardians that watch over the Eye of Chotec are rightfully feared by those who trespass on the hallowed ground of the Ravening Ruin. Today we’re taking a look at exactly how the stealthy Seraphon from Sundered Fate play in games of Warcry.
Chameleon Skinks are spawned with the blessing of Huanchi, the Predator God, and marked by Ulguan shadow-magic that allows them to blend in with their surroundings. Despite these preternatural skills, they aren’t the most resilient of Seraphon fighters – so the Hunters of Huanchi rely on ranged harassment and saurian smarts over brute strength to do their duty.
Their unique Reaction, the appropriately named Slippery, allows any skink to merge with the shadows and melt away, disengaging from a fight when they take damage in melee. It’s a nasty trick for frustrating any opponent who fails to finish them off quickly.
While their small stature makes it challenging to stand up to the bigger bullies in the many warbands laying claim to the Gnarlwood, these lithe lizards have a claw-full of cunning ploys to help turn the tide.
Those skinks granted the title of Huanchi’s Claw have the privilege of donning a magical Xhotla Helm, which can mimic the ear-splitting Bellow of the Carnosaur. This terrifying roar will reduce the bravest opponent’s legs to jelly – perfect for pinning down a dangerous foe.
The Hunters of Huanchi don’t hunt alone. They have tamed a breed of flying reptiles called Terrawings – distant relatives of Terradons – which they use to harass their foes with claw and beak. You’ll have noticed one skink in the warband carries a big gold horn, to sound the Call of the Hunt.
One toot from that sonorous instrument summons a nearby Terrawing to swoop down on an unwary enemy, causing damage equal to the value of the ability and putting your winged pet in range for a follow-up attack.
With all these tricks, your crafty chameleons can take apart tougher warbands piece by piece, peppering foes with envenomed blow darts and disorientating them with a range of tools as they duck, dodge, dip, and dive their way to victory.
They’ll need to pull all of these tricks out of the bag to repel the Jade Obelisk in Warcry: Sundered Fate, which goes on pre-order this weekend. Check back later this week for details on just how those manic masons play.
