Christmas is about giving, and among the worlds of Warhammer there are few as keen to share gifts as the Plague God Nurgle*. As his trusted lieutenants in the material realms, Great Unclean Ones are keen to do their master’s bidding, and this epic conversion by Warhammer Painting presenter Adam Langton imagines what one might look like if festive cheer came to the swamps of Ghyran.
First, Adam brightened up the daemon’s jolly smile with a cheeky nose and hat borrowed from Grinkrak’s Looncourt** – the latest warband in Warhammer: Underworlds. Then a bag from the King Brodd kit was added to stash his festering presents in.
Adam’s paint scheme is snow joke, making the Greater Daemon look like a nightmare snowman with pallid white skin.He began by basecoating the entire model with Grey Seer Spray. The Great Unclean One is a fantastic canvas for Citadel Contrast and Shade paints, so the body was given a generous coat of Soulblight Grey with drybrushed highlights of Corax White and White Scar, while the wood was painted with Wyldwood.
Other details were spruced up with Magmadroth Flame on the nose, Baal Red on the hat, Gore-grunta Fur on the bag, and Imperial Fist on all the lovely boil-y bits.
Highlights were built up with a variety of Citadel colours, most notably some vibrant Screamer Pink and Druchii Violet for the intestines, and Berserker Bloodshade around the edges of the wounds.
Finally, the base was finished off with a quick coat of Stirland Mud coated with Valhallan Blizzard, which was also dotted sparingly all over the model to give it a Christmas card-ready look with a fresh coating of snow.

And there you have it, one greater daemon ready to visit all the folk on Nurgle’s naughty list. And if you want to see this festive monster in the flesh, then it is in the cabinets at the Warhammer World store in Nottingham over the festive period!
