Angron Unleashes His Fury at the Grey Knights in His First Ever Battle Report

Mortals beware – the head-taking, corpse-making superstars of the galaxy’s most irrepressibly angry warhost are only a few short weeks away from your tabletop. This week’s Warhammer+ Battle Report brings the cream of the splintered XII Legion to bear against one of their greatest nemeses, the Grey Knights.

With such a specialised foe arrayed against them, the World Eaters are rolling out their biggest guns* in the form of the Daemon Primarch Angron and Khârn the Betrayer. Melee combat connoisseur Simon Grant is here to tell us all about this epic showdown.

Simon: To showcase the brutal melee power of the World Eaters, we wanted to pit them against an elite enemy army rather than one filled with chaff they would effortlessly tear through. With some gnarly daemons in the form of Angron and the Eightbound joining the ranks of the World Eaters for the first time, the Grey Knights felt like the perfect choice to be their opponents.

BR Angron Jan18 Army2No surprises here – Angron is an absolute menace! He may not have any ranged weapons or fancy psychic powers, but he'll reliably kill anything he comes into contact with, whether it be a horde of infantry or super-heavy war machine. One discovery we made is that Angron isn't anywhere near as survivable as his Daemon Primarch brothers with their festering durability or psychic shenanigans – but he doesn't need to be, as he's got a way of spectacularly mitigating that issue.

It’s our first Battle Report outing with the new codex, and it’s proved to be just as much fun as you’d expect from Khorne’s favourite blood-spillers. The World Eaters are so devastating in melee that even a handful of them will often prove enough to butcher their opponents, so don't be disheartened if you suffer heavy casualties from enemy fire – your time will come, and when it does, the blood will flow like never before!

Blood Tithe points add a fun and exciting dimension to the game, providing a reward for every unit – even your own – that is destroyed. Of course, in a large battle like this one, Blood Tithe points will be coming in thick and fast, so you'll soon be putting the ‘laughter’ into ‘slaughter’ as you merrily spend them to augment your already formidable forces.

No spoilers, but as you can imagine, it was an incredibly violent game with both sides dishing out an incredible amount of damage!

Thanks Simon! While we give the Battle Report studio a good sponge down with some cold water and lemon juice, on Warhammer+ this week you’ll also be able to catch up with Citadel Colour Masterclass as they show off some perfect painting techniques for this Saturday’s Astra Militarum pre-orders.

The latest episode in the Angels of Death: Origins series – Patience of Iron – also drops today after a slight delay last week. It follows Techpriest Castia-Theta-9 as she attempts to survive a planetary Genestealer Cult uprising.

If you aren’t subscribed to Warhammer+ yet, sign up now to get access to a huge library of battle reports, advanced painting tutorials, lore chronicles, and much more. Last week, subscribers got to watch the Ork flyboyz of Deff Skwadron chase a Carrier-Squigeon through a deadly canyon in an anarchic custom Battle Report. That’s what you’re missing.
