Is the Rock too Tough For Vashtorr to Crack? Azrael Gets New Rules as the Dark Angels Come Under Attack

After spending two books orchestrating galactic chaos from the shadows, the daemonic demigod Vashtorr the Arkifane is finally ready to get his hands dirty in Arks of Omen: Vashtorr, which is up for pre-order this weekend. His search for mysterious fragments has led him to the Rock – one of the most formidable fastnesses in the Imperium, and a repository of secrets.

Against him stands Grand Master Azrael, a devout defender of the Imperium fresh from crossing the Rubicon Primaris. Both of these characters receive epic new models, which are exclusively (for now) available in the Wrath of the Soul Forge King boxed set. They’re also available for pre-order on Saturday – but you can download Azrael’s upgraded datasheet below.

Unbeknownst to the wider Imperium, the Rock is built around a chunk of the Dark Angels’ lost homeworld Caliban, its interior honeycombed with ancient corridors, kill zones, and forbidden treasures. It is a fortress-monastery and battle station, utterly impregnable… without a bit of the old Chaos razzle-dazzle to even the odds.

Even the everyday walkways between galleries are a warren of crisscrossing tunnels and stairs, all the better to hide the Chapter’s many secrets. Just take a look at the small fraction of its layout that Vashtorr will have to navigate – it’s a nightmare.

Despite bristling with macro-cannons, lance batteries, and torpedo bays, the most formidable of the Rock’s defences are its Space Marines. The Dark Angels defend their holdings almost as aggressively as they defend their secrets.

A recent raid by the Daemon Prince Marbas – himself a Fallen Dark Angel – penetrated deep into the prison complex in the station’s heart, and although he appeared to accomplish little besides wanton destruction* the sheer audacity of his attack resulted in much improved defences.

* His true objective remains unknown, but the captive arch-traitor and prophet Luther vanished in his wake – though only Azrael knows…
