Vashtorr the Arkifane has poked his mechadendrites everywhere, refashioning Warhammer Community into a machine dedicated to raising his stature within the Chaos pantheon.
As part of this sinister scheme, he has duped painters from around the world to produce fabulous artists’ renditions of his majestic daemonic form – accompanied by crude daubings upon his foe, the Supreme Grand Master Azrael.
As ever, a special thank-you to everyone who took part!
Fletcher Giles
Fletcher from Tabletop Tactics provides us with a glimpse of Vashtorr menacingly striding across a field of magma, the searing glow offsetting his pale skin and muted armour panels via some well-placed object source lighting.
Vincent Knotley
Vincent’s disturbing take on Vashtorr marries clean white armour and pristine brass trim with truly painful-looking raw skin, a combination that makes this menacing daemon look like he’s just stepped straight out of the warp.
Matthew Herrington
Vashtorr’s flesh stretched-over metal innards is a fantastic canvas for various colours and techniques. Matthew from Goonhammer has chosen a cold, dark blue which works excellently alongside the warm bone armour panels and muted metal elements.
Kenny Wildman
Kenny from The Unrelenting Brush has another Vashtorr who looks a little blue, working well with the metallic red armour to create a pleasing disparity.
Jennie Ruskin
Azrael is a much-beloved beloved character, and Jennie has done him justice with a clean and crisp take on the Supreme Grandmaster and his dutiful attendant.
Danny McDevitt
Danny gives us a battle-worn take on the Keeper of the Truth trudging through some martian hellscape and getting those nice bone-white robes all mucky.*
Caleb Wissenback
And now back to your regularly scheduled display of Vashtorr… Caleb of CK Studios has done a stellar job, picking out the stretched flesh with grotesque accuracy and capturing the glow of the heat on expertly realised metallics.
Andrew Lynch
The best thing about Dark Angels is that they’re a bunch of armies in one. Andrew from Glass Half Dead has decided to outfit his Azrael in the bone-white armour of the Deathwing, complete with sumptuous red robes.
Andrew Farrell
Andrew’s Vashtorr cleaves close to the ‘Eavy Metal scheme, with pallid, bruised daemonic flesh brushing up against burnished metallics.
Adrian Phillips
Vashtorr’s designer recently told us that his “blacksmith’s apron”-style armour is optional – Adrian from Tabletop Titans has left it off here to great effect, exposing the mechanised interior anatomy, which adds a creepy element to this very pale rendition.
Rob “TheChirurgeon” Jones
Rob from Goonhammer has amped up the daemonic malevolence with a saturated green glow that complements the purple flesh and bone armour well for an overall eerie appearance.
Adam R
Adam from Siege Studio gives us stunning examples of Azrael and Vashtorr, the former keeping his classic colour scheme, and the latter pushing into sickly yellow for the armour and uniquely forge-blackened metals.
Joshua Hill
So did Vashtorr’s scheme work? Did he win the hearts and minds of the Chaos gods? The verdict’s still out. Joshua from Warhipster gives us a look at what the two warriors facing off against each other might look like, with some superb box-fresh paint schemes.
Finally, Warhammer Community’s very own Graeme took the opportunity to paint Vashtorr as well, giving his flesh the colour of livid contusions.
You can take your own shot at painting Vashtorr and Azrael tomorrow, when Wrath of the Soul Forge King goes on pre-order – the only place you can buy these two character models at first. Share the results with us on the official Warhammer Twitter page.
* We hate to think what the Dark Angel’s dry cleaning bill looks like.
