For the last few years, the online Warhammer community has been painting and posting Ultramarines during the month of March, using the hashtag #MarchForMacragge. We caught up with the man who came up with it, Warhammer+ Presenter Nick, to tell us what happened during this year’s march!
Nick: Look, I’m a big fan of puns. So about five years ago, I was painting models for my Ultramarines army around March time and posted them online using the tag #MarchForMacragge, just because it was a dreadful hobby pun – after all, one of the Ultramarines’ famous battle cries is “We march for Macragge and we shall know no fear!”
The fans joined in, painting their own Ultramarines and using the tag. They did the same the next year and then the next. So now, five years on, it’s grown into a 31-day online celebration of painting, with folks painting Ultramarines, successor Chapter Space Marines, famous enemies of the Ultramarines and more. What started out as a silly pun has turned into a really positive annual community project, and it’s been an absolute joy to behold.
Here’s what I finished:
This year, I myself painted loads more Ultramarines for my army, as did plenty of other people. We held a special show on Warhammer Live at the end of the month, where we showcased some of the very best models we’d seen.
The pictures below are just a smattering of the awesome work on display; thank you so much to each of the creators for allowing us to share these pictures! Sorry if yours isn’t shown here - there were far too many to choose from!
