Suspended above the Throat of Ghur, the Wydrhollow is the terminus for all things consumed by the Realm of Beasts. A repository of everything from the realmshaper engines fallen from the Eye of Chotec, to relics and trinkets from civilizations long past, this nexus of arcane power pulses with the potential for change.
Like the Gnarlwood box, Wyrdhollow contains four complete Rivals decks – one for each of the warbands in the box, and two additional decks. The first, Seismic Shock, lets spell-slinging warbands from seasons past take advantage of the thrumming thaumaturgical energy that permeates the Wyrdhollow, and the new rules in the box.
Seismic Shock is full of gambits and upgrades for enterprising wizards. Simple ploys like Arcane Reach let your spellcasters pick off unsuspecting targets, while spells like Channelled Power help make wizard-heavy warbands even more powerful, which is great when you want to strike out with a banger like Abasoth’s Adaptive Assault.
This renewed focus on spellcasting filters through to scoring your Objectives, with Sorcerous Treasure-Hunter rewards amassing upgrades on your most powerful casters while taking objectives, and Manipulating the Realmsphere encourages you to pursue thaumaturgical supremacy.
The second Rivals deck in the box is Toxic Terrors, which is packed full of deadly poisons, venoms, and creepy crawlies that live in the undulating depths of the Wyrdhollow.
Any warband committed to victory must learn to take advantage of these poisons, reducing their foe’s effectiveness with Freezing Poison, letting their targets Bleed Out as the toxins overtake them, before finishing them off with a poisoned blade between the ribs – Callous stuff.
Keeping on top of who is envenomed and who is doing the envenoming is the name of the day for scoring this deck’s Objective cards. Dual Contamination gives warbands a choice of loading up on upgrades or doing their best to keep poison gambits in action, while Mass Poisoning simply asks that one fighter forces as many toxins into their opponent’s cardiovascular systems even if they’re already dead or hopped up on fermented fungi.
Two more decks – themed around Domitan’s Stormcoven and Ephilim’s Pandaemonium – will be available in Warhammer Underworlds: Wyrdhollow, alongside two full new warbands and plenty more besides. It’s coming to pre-order very soon.
