The Making of Blacktalon – How the Mortal Realms Were Brought to Life for Warhammer+

Blacktalon returns for its third episode this week on Warhammer+. This thrilling series is an action-packed adventure – and one that’s given viewers an unparalleled opportunity to witness the majesty and horror of the Mortal Realms like never before.

We’ve got our talons on some exclusive behind-the-scenes concept imagery of the gorgeous environments featured in the show, in which the setting of the Age of Sigmar is brought vividly to life by M2 Animations.

Neave and her Backtalon cohort reside in the most magisterial of abodes at Hammerhal Aqsha. The Blacktalon Sanctuary is a baroque palace packed with statues wrought from alabaster and gold.*

Serving the God-King definitely has its perks – the Sanctuary is prime real estate, spacious with picturesque views of the metropolis of Hammerhal and the titanic realmgate that splits it in two.

The missions that the Blacktalons undertake have the whole crew hopping across the realms, dispatching enemies like the rot-spreading followers of Nurgle. In last week’s episode of Blacktalon, the crew made a pincer assault against the vampire Kaelena’s fortress.

The following images are of a village idyll somewhere in Ghyran, seen only in Neave’s flashbacks.

And in this week’s instalment, the Blacktalons plunge into the bestial guts of Herakon, a city of Order built in and on top of the carcass of a long-dead monster, recently overthrown by the Hag Queen Vindessa.

* We recognised a few of those statues, though they’re in better condition than we’re used to seeing them.
