It’s almost time to step from the shadows and bring the might of the Inquisition to bear in Kill Team: Ashes of Faith, which goes up for pre-order this weekend. One of the big draws in this awesome campaign expansion is the brand new Inquisitorial Agent kill team, and while we’ve already seen their beautiful new models, we haven’t yet found out how they fight.
Appropriately enough, they aren’t concerned about the rules lesser kill teams need to follow – whether it’s their roster size, objective control rules, or the Scouting step, they always have a sneaky workaround to gain an advantage.
The chief weapon in their arsenal is their flexibility, using the supreme authority of their patron to build a vast network of specialists who can be called in at a moment’s notice.
The expanded roster size will be put to good use, as you can choose to either have a full team of 12 agents, or replace five with an Ancillary Support choice from one of six different Imperial factions. These groups of specialists are drawn from their own regular kill team rosters, and pack many of the same guns, gadgets and rules.
Operatives are selected from your roster after the mission and opponent have been decided, so you can cherry-pick the best team for the job. Sisters of Silence Vigilators add a heavy close combat punch ideal for the tight corridors of the Gallowdark, but if you’re going to be shooting across the open expanse of Killzone Moroch, you’ll want the pinpoint firepower of a Kasrkin team.
That’s not to say the Inquisitorial Agent kill team isn’t without skills of its own. The Interrogator leading the team is a consummate commander who works together with their Tome-skull to defend allies and defile enemies, trading two Consecrated Tomes between them to spread the range of their abilities further than a lone operative could manage.
The team’s Autosavant operative is likewise dedicated to mission support –though they’re as effective as a wet noodle in a fight, their chronicling tools help them lock down an objective with an Irrefutable Report. No amount of Heretic Astartes or Chaos Cultists could shift control away on their watch – provided they’re kept safe.
When stealthy investigations go out of the window and some heretics need a good old-fashioned blasting, the Pistolier can be relied upon to deliver the goods. The close confines of a typical killzone pose few problems for the short range of their sidearms, and the devastating power of their Pistol Barrage can utterly annihilate enemy operatives for the low, low price of 1 AP.
As an added bonus, if the enemy sees fit to (sensibly) stay well out of their way, the scoped plasma pistol is perfectly capable of scoring long-ranged hits – in many cases, just as accurately as other kill teams’ gunners.
Come back later this week as we open the pages of the Ashes of Faith campaign book and rummage around inside for some juicy narrative rules. With Kill Team: Ashes of Faith coming up for pre-order this weekend, you won’t want to miss it.
