The Shadow in the Warp used to be enough to deal with enemy psykers, but with the onset of the Age of Witches, many of them have now been blessed by the Emperor/the Dark Gods/Gork and Mork (delete as appropriate). What is the Hive Mind to do? Why, it’s time to unleash the Psychophage and end the supply of mind bullets forever.
Look at that new Space Marine Librarian, strutting around in his swanky Terminator Armour. And check out that Weirdboy, empowered by all the Ork Boyz they’re hanging out with. Sure, one of them may blow their own fingers off, and the other’s brain might explode with Waaagh! Power, but if they keep their minds intact you’ll have to deal with them yourself.
Well, the talons and betentacled maw* of the Psychophage are perfect for plucking apart your pick of pesky psykers.
That Anti-Psyker ability combined with Devastating Wounds means that you’re causing mortal wounds to PSYKERS on each Wound roll of 2+. Farseers, Infernal Masters, and Living Ancestors will all be quaking in their boots.
But what if an enemy sorcerer stubbornly refuses to wander into your tendril-rimmed maw? You have two options – lay a trap baited with an annotated copy of the Book of Magnus, or use the Psychophage’s shooting attack.
The Torrent ability means this vile belch of psychocorrosive ash automatically hits its target, while Ignores Cover prevents them from hiding in terrain. Once you’ve inflicted some harm – or got an allied swarm to do it for you – the Psychophage goes into a feeding frenzy, like a shark detecting a drop of blood in the water.
It may seem like the Psychophage is a fussy eater, but with the weapons at its disposable, it’s quite happy to eat anything that’s foolish enough to get close, not just psykers. Just be sure to get some of the smaller critters to grab toothbrushes and help with all of those teeth afterwards.
The Psychophage can be found inside the Warhammer 40,000: Leviathan boxed set, which will be available for pre-order soon. Sign up for our newsletter so you’ll know exactly when you’ll be able to get your hands on the launch box for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000.
* As we’ve seen from the Haruspex, the Hive Mind loves a good maw.
