We caught our first glimpse of the incredible Mega Edition boxed set of Fall of Cadia back in May – a jam-packed box of curios from the front lines of the conflict that defined an era. It’s been a long time since a Special Edition of this magnitude has emerged from Black Library, so we’re taking a closer look at what you get inside.
First off, Fall of Cadia is not a small book – clocking in at 544 pages – so this should give you some idea of just how chunky the entire package is. The novel itself tells the complete tale of Cadia’s fall from the ground level, weaving intrigue from the tables of high command with the desperate plight of infantry on the front line.
Penned by Robert Rath – author of The Infinite and the Divine and Assassinorum: Kingmaker – it’s the closest you’ll ever want to get to the monumental siege that birthed the Dark Imperium. This is the last stand to end all last stands, and a singularly heroic saga of the Astra Militarum’s finest hour.
To dig deeper into the harrowing experience of the Cadians in the trenches, this set also includes a full 64-page diary from Cadet-Corporal Wellum Josep – an everyman soldier plunged into the fight for his world. Titled A Diary of the Fall, this in-universe diary is packed with observations from a regular Guardsman fighting the very stuff of Chaos, sprinkled with documents and pamphlets issued to the Astra Militarum.
It won’t do much good to hear about the battlefields of Cadia if you don’t know where they are, so the Mega Edition also features a fold-out map of the environs around Kasr Kraf and its environs.
The lucky few who made it off the doomed world were awarded the highest honours for their bravery, and one of those honours finds its way into the box. A cast metal medal is just the thing to show that you didn’t break before the planet did – but if a certain distinguished collector was to carelessly drop the dog tags of Ursarkar E Creed, Lord Castellan of Cadia, into the box… well, you would tell us, wouldn’t you?
The book itself is a Special Edition worthy of Black Library’s most distinguished company, with gold foil details on the leather-effect cover and spine, a brown ribbon page marker, and several full-colour illustrations. It’s a tome of class and distinction, and will look awesome on your shelf between other tales of Astra Militarum heroism.
Only 1,750 of these Mega Editions will be printed – each individually numbered and signed by the author – so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for a release date here on Warhammer-Community.com.
