Armies on Parade is nearing its final stretch! For those ticking off lists, you should have picked an army, chosen a Supreme Command, tackled some Gods of War, polished off a handful of Magicians and Machines, and will now be thinking about what your Battlefront will look like.
Naturally your miniatures are going to be the stars of the show, but thematic terrain can really elevate an Armies on Parade entry. Not only does it frame the army, helping them look grounded in the setting, it provides a whole host of opportunities to create fantastic narratives.
You can of course create your own terrain, a time-honoured tradition amongst Warhammer hobbyists since the days of flocked polystyrene hills and cardboard bunkers, but you can also take some of the pressure off with a range of gorgeous plastic scenery kits.
You could theme a Warhammer Age of Sigmar board around the defence of an abandoned Dawnbringer Crusade encampment, using the Cleansing Aqualith and the Realmscape Expansion Set, or perhaps fashion a Warhammer 40,000 board using a sprawling Battlezone: Fronteris outpost.
Many entries in past years have made great use of readily available scenery and terrain combined in interesting ways to both imply a great sense of scale and to provide a high quality backdrop, while other competitors have gone all-in to create custom pieces that really hammer home the fantastical nature of Warhammer.
Once you’ve finished composing the perfect scene to set your rampaging army in, make sure to share it with the rest of the Warhammer community with the hashtag #ArmiesOnParade2023.
Here’s your timely reminder that you can also score some neat pin badges this year by completing each set of two categories. Complete your parade display by the end of November and show your progress off at your local Warhammer store to net the Armies on Parade gold award pin badge.
Get building your Battlefront right, and you should be done just in time for the final category, and closer still to entering – and potentially winning one of the coveted Armies on Parade awards!
