The third part of Dawnbringers, the ongoing narrative in Warhammer Age of Sigmar, has been revealed. Alongside a fresh chunk of the exciting story and the second chapter of the Cities of Sigmar Path to Glory campaign, The Long Hunt also contains rules for new Armies of Renown. These four thematic armies come with Grand Strategies and Battle Tactics enhancements to represent the forces battling alongside and against the Twin-Tailed Crusade.
The Roving Maw
In Ghyran, foul Mawpacks of Ogor Gorgers descend on the beleaguered vanguard of the Twin-Tailed Crusade, mirroring events in the Gnarlwood. The Roving Maw Army of Renown saturates the air with gastromantic magic stoked by corpulent Ogor Butchers and their packs of Mawpack pariahs, puncturing the battlefield with gnashing mawpits – hungry rents in the ground that the Ogors believe represent their Gulping God.*
At the start of each battle round, a 2D6 roll determines hunger on a scale from Peckish to Ravenous, with commensurate effects for units not wholly within 1” of terrain, including reducing bravery and dealing Mortal Wounds.
Roving Maw Butchers can pick a spell from the Lore of the Great Maw to supplement their hungry allies. With a sprinkling of glistening Mawmeat a Butcher can attract Mawpits to safe terrain, preventing enemy units from using a terrain feature to avoid being chomped on.
Lofnir Drothkeepers
The Aqshyian contingent of the Twin-Tailed Crusade is in a similarly fraught position, still reeling from the fall of Trucebreak as a tide of troggoths bears down on them. Salvation comes via the blazing axes of Fyreslayers from the Vorstag Lodge, and the mighty Magmadroths of the Lofnir Drothkeepers.
This army pairs Fyreslayers with powerful Magmadroths, only excluding unique units that lack the Lofnir keyword. Years of experience rearing hot-tempered Magmadroth has made Vulkyn Flameseekers Daring Tamers who can inflict the strike-last effect on MONSTERS if two units work in tandem to tackle a surly beast.
As Honourbound Drotmasters, one Auric Runeson on Magmadroth may be taken as a Battleline unit for every unit of Vulkyn Flameseekers (who are also Battleline). Handy, when these Flameseeking Fyreslayers can straddle these fiery steeds to cover ground faster.
Lofnir Magmadroths have a spark of the Ur Salamander. These Spawn of Vulcatrix demonstrate their power with three special Monstrous Rampages, like Eruption of Ferocity, which strips the ward saves from units with 3” on a 2+.
Ionus Cryptborn and Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth can go to war alongside Armies of Renown, and Warhammer Community will investigate them later soon. Stay tuned to find out when you can pre-order Dawnbringers: Book III – The Long Hunt and find out what’s next for the Twin-Tailed Crusade.
* New warscrolls for the Mawpit and Mawpack Gorgers are in the book, but will also be available to download on Warhammer Community very soon!
