It might shock you to discover that the battlefields of the Horus Heresy were rather dangerous, with imminent death from Titan cannons just one of a great many ways to meet your demise.
To get valuable troops across treacherous topography, and without hurling them from orbit, the Legiones Astartes often deployed the Land Raider Proteus – a rolling mass of armour plating and weapons that’s been convinced it’s a tank – and in the massive battles that Legions Imperialis games represent, they’re more important than ever.
Each box contains six miniature Land Raiders in the Explorator configuration, which means they have a chunky dozer blade at the front to crash through uneven terrain. Though conceived as an exploration vehicle and lacking the front assault ramp of their Spartan and Proteus Carrier compeers, the Explorator is nonetheless a powerful tank with armour-busting lascannon sponsons and can deploy ahead of the main lines thanks to its advanced augury scanners.
In addition to the Land Raiders themselves, these highly detailed multi-part plastic miniatures come with options for a tank commander and a cupola-mounted heavy bolter or multi-melta. Their cavernous holds can carry plenty of troops, keeping them even safer than a fortified building, while their legendary armour plating can even withstand shots from Titan-sized weapons.*
Join us again next week for more Heresy Thursday reveals – our scanners tell us there might be more on the horizon for Legions Imperialis.
* But do still try to avoid them if you can…
