While most Necrons are little more than mindless automatons or maddened shells, the Overlords that lead them are keenly intelligent, capable, and above all ambitious. Their superior living metal bodies make them powerful combatants at the worst of times, and they arm themselves with all manner of technological treasures plucked from their dynastic vaults.
Now a new Overlord is slipping into this dimension, equipped with some devious phasing technology.
Now, we know what you’re thinking – “Warhammer Community, aren’t those swirls of dematerialising matter remarkably similar to an as-yet unsolved Rumour Engine image from nearly two years ago?” – and as usual you’re spot on. We caught a first glimpse of this ominous Overlord’s unearthly presence all the way back on the 16th of November 2021, and today’s reveal finally closes the case on the longest-running mystery in Rumour Engine history… so far.
This miniature uses the baleful emanations of its translocation shroud to show the Overlord in a unique pose – caught in the very moment it phases into (or out of?) the material world. As such, the model almost appears to hover above its own sculpted base, sections of its body and wargear still partway through emerging from invisible phase space.
Unlike regular Overlords, who must rely on leisurely barge cruises or hefty teleportation gates to get where they’re going, this mobile variant makes use of their personal translocation shroud to slip through solid walls, enemy sentinels, and other obstructions – even bringing their bodyguards along for the ride.
This makes these non-linear Necron nobles especially hard to pin down, as valiant defenders who’d hoped to block the Overlord’s advance or lock them in combat find their foe inexplicably reappearing behind their ranks, or on the other side of a sturdy fortification.
The new Overlord will be joining Imotekh the Stormlord – himself freshly updated – when Codex: Necrons rises from its tomb later this year.
