Scouts have been a vital element of Space Marine armies since the early days of Warhammer 40,000, when young recruits were tasked with vital reconnaissance missions to test their mettle and build skills for when they earned their power armour.
These much-loved miniatures finally get a modern update when Kill Team: Salvation arrives with the Scout Squad kill team and a beautiful new kit packed with options to build them.
All of the options are packed into a five-man sprue, so you can double up on your favourite bits and build every operative available to the kill team without needing to make hard decisions like “Do I equip my Sergeant with a chainsword or a shotgun?”.
This also means that Warhammer 40,000 players can build the complete set of options for a 10-man Scout Squad, including two sniper rifles and whichever two heavy weapons they like the most.
Every Scout in the squad can take a boltgun, shotgun, or bolt pistol and combat knife, allowing you to tailor their role for the mission at hand. You also get a heavy bolter – featuring stylish bare arms to make its carrier look extra beefy – or a missile launcher to bring down tougher targets on each sprue.
Each weapon includes stowed ammunition accessories, to better complete the look of a long-ranging scout team that might spend considerable time away from friendly lines. In fact, the sheer variety of pouches, grenades, and extra knick-knacks makes the Scout Squad a great source of customisation for other units
The Scout Squad kill team’s Tracker and Hunter operatives get some extra gear, with a chunky Auspex – retaining its very classic design – and a grapnel launcher borrowed from the Reivers to zip across high platforms. The Tracker can sling his boltgun over his shoulder, which as a completely separate piece, will no doubt find many more homes among sergeants and characters in the rest of your Space Marine army.
Scouts are known for their lack of helmets, so there are plenty of head options. Each sprue has nine distinct heads to choose from, including one designed to work with a variant torso and a rebreather.
You’ll have your first chance to get hold of the newly refreshed Scout Squad when Kill Team: Salvation goes up for pre-order on the 23rd of December.
