Under the Hood With the Inner Circle Companions of the Dark Angels

Most mysterious of the newly revealed Dark Angels are undoubtedly the Inner Circle Companions. Information on these shrouded sentinels is scarce even by Dark Angels standards, so we had to ask: does anyone know who they are?

For the majority of the Dark Angels, and their successors, all that is known is that mysterious warriors in dark-hued armour appeared shortly after the return of Lion El’Jonson. They heed no battle plans and regard no council, but wield huge greatswords of ancient Calibanite design in the defence of important figures from the Unforgiven Chapters.

That the identity of these Companions remains secret is sure to vex many in the Inner Circle, for the Dark Angels strive to unravel almost as many secrets as they themselves keep. Whispers abound that their Primarch is involved, but if the Lion knows who hides under the blackened hoods and helmets of the Companions, he’s not telling.

Despite this suspicion, the aid these enigmatic knights lend to the Unforgiven raises them beyond reproach. Their skill and silent fury have already shielded the sons of the Lion from harm on dozens of occasions, speaking only over heavily encrypted vox-lines and disappearing as suddenly as they arrived.

For those who fight alongside the Inner Circle Companions, their vow of silence lends them an eerie air as only the whine of power armour servos and the crunch of blades carving through bone accompanies their brutal performance. Even should one be wounded or fall in battle, they will not cry out.

So who exactly are they? We wouldn’t dare speculate. All we know is that they look the business, and that every Dark Angels fan will want a squad to join their returning characters like Asmodai. They might not wear Terminator armour, but their dark armour and robes will look fantastic alongside a massed Deathwing assault too.
