Crusade: Pariah Nexus – Unlock Upgrades and Master a Campaign

Crusade: Pariah Nexus is the next campaign supplement for Warhammer 40,000. Clocking in at 120 pages, this book brings us up to date on the vast war raging across the Nephilim Sector and brings rules for waging a campaign here, including Enhancements for your Crusade forces and new battleplans.

This book doesn’t continue from Crusade: Tyrannic War; it’s a fresh canvas that contains a new plot, missions, crusade blessings, agendas, relics and legendary relics, as well as battle traits.

You’ll join an alliance of Seekers, Protectors, or Interlopers and battle over Blackstone, the critical warp-repulsing material on which both the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Necrons have their augmented sights.

Every army uses the Blackstone Discovery rules. Harnessing the power of Blackstone Fragments to buy XP for your Warlord once per Campaign phase, and allowing powerful upgrades – such as the Empathic Disinclinator, which grants friendly units within range of a pre-selected objective marker a 5+ invulnerable save.

A warlord experienced in the unique environments of the Pariah Nexus can also become an Acquisitive Opportunist, swapping between Scouts 6”, Lone Operative, or Stealth depending on the Strategic Footing selected… which leads us neatly to another key feature of the Pariah Nexus campaign.

A disquieting technologic miasma known as the Stifling covers the Pariah Nexus, and its effects make battlefield communication fraught and chaotic, translating into the Strategic Footings step, which happens just before you read your mission rules.

Each player secretly selects either the Aggressive, Balanced, or Defensive Strategic Footing for the battle before comparing the results in the following table. This can shift who is the attacker, who gains advantage, or in the case of both players picking the same, throw fate to a dice roll.

Every mission has a rule that provides a boon to the player with the advantage. In Gheists in the Static, the player with the advantage can select a unit from the Crusade army to gain the Infiltrator rule. In Quantum Siege, a unit can have its Objective Control characteristic increased by 1, once per game. Other advantages include unique interactions with mission rules, such as letting units ignore board-wide debuffs and modifiers.

There are even three unique agendas that tie into the Strategic Footings, and mastery of this new battle step is paramount in securing victory on your Crusade. What’s more, the book contains all the base rules for Crusade games – so it’s all contained in one place.

Crusade: Pariah Nexus is available to pre-order this weekend, and you can download the core Crusade rules right here.
