Sentinels are the secret sauce of the Solar Auxilia, armoured walkers that can race over rough terrain that would burn out the engine of a Malcador Heavy Tank from sheer exertion – provided they tread carefully. Aethon Heavy Sentinels may look ungainly, but these bipedal bombardiers really strut their stuff on the battlefield.
Solar Auxilia Sentinels are all Cavalry assigned the new Mechanised Unit sub-type, which gives them some of the traits associated with “true” vehicles. Special rules such as Fleshbane and Poison are less effective against their metal hulls, they can shoot with all their weapons, even during a reaction, and they don’t need to break stride to fire heavier guns.
There’s a price for that versatility, as Mechanised units are also susceptible to some of the same weaknesses as big tanks. Anti-vehicle weapons with Armourbane have a greater chance of causing damage, and they’re vulnerable to Haywire and Detonation attacks.
You’ll find the full profiles for all three varieties of Solar Auxilia Sentinels in the upcoming campaign book, The Battle for Beta-Garmon – but as the Aethon Heavy Sentinel is available to pre-order this weekend as part of the Solar Auxilia Battle group, you can also download its rules right now.
Aspiring Auxilia Marshals will have to wait a short while longer for the Hermes Light Sentinels – presumably they’re circling around to outflank the enemy. When they vox us their pre-order date, we’ll share it right here on Warhammer Community.
